Job Title : License Permit Technician
Job Summary : Under the general supervision of the Building Official, performs specialized and responsible work, including receiving, reviewing and evaluating construction permit and local business tax receipt applications and administrative compliance. The License Permit Technician is responsible for typing, filing, office machine operation, and maintenance of construction permits, local business tax receipts and contractor registrations. The License Permit Technician is responsible for understanding both the Citizenserve and Central Square (Naviline) functions as it pertains to their job. Essential Job Functions include receiving, recording, processing, evaluating, and distributing local business tax receipt applications submitted to the department and ensuring administrative compliance. Coordinates required building, code enforcement, fire safety, zoning and environmental inspections and compiles results.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities : Knowledge of local business tax receipt and construction permitting codes, regulations and policies. Knowledge of business English, punctuation, arithmetic, and spelling; modern office practices and procedures. Skill in the application of modern office techniques and practices. Skill in the use and care of pertinent office machines and equipment. Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion with minimum supervision and adhere to prescribed routines and practices. Ability to type at least forty (40) wpm. Ability to maintain complex records and make reports requiring extreme accuracy. Ability to work well with others and to assist the public cooperatively and courteously.
Education and Experience : High school diploma or GED certificate with courses in typing and other clerical subjects with two (2) years of successful diversified office experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Special Qualifications : For positions requiring the operation of City vehicles, must possess a valid current Florida driver's license, or be able to acquire one within 45 days of hire.
Essential Physical Skills : The work is generally medium and may require exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and up to 10 pounds of force frequently to move objects. Additionally, the following physical abilities are required : Feeling : Ability to perceive attributes of objects by touch. Dexterity : Primarily with fingers, as in picking, pinching, or typing. Grasping : Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm. Handling : Picking, holding, or otherwise working with the whole hand. Hearing : Ability to hear and understand at normal speaking levels with or without correction. Kneeling : Bending legs at knee to come to a rest on knee or knees. Lifting : Ability to frequently lift and move objects. Mental Acuity : Ability to make rational decisions. Reaching : Ability to extend hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction. Repetitive Motion : Substantial movements (motions) of the wrist, hands, and / or fingers. Speaking / Talking : Ability to communicate clearly, accurately and concisely through speech. Stooping : Ability occasionally bend the body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist. Visual Acuity : Ability to perform activities such as : preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; and / or extensive reading, operating motor vehicles; including color, depth perception, and field vision. Walking : Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks and moving from one work site to another. Work Environment : Work is generally performed in a safe and secure environment that may periodically have unpredicted requirements or demands.
