MACHINIST I / II
Basic Job Functions :
CNC Machinist produces machined parts to specifications using manual machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, drill presses and other general machine shop equipment to produce a variety of metal or plastic parts while maintaining quality and safety standards. Applies knowledge and skill to perform moderately complex machining duties.
Experience :
- Minimum two (2) years’ experience in a job shop environment and demonstrated proficiency in operating all manual machine tools such as lathes, mills drill presses etc.
- Certified to a moderate level of skill and knowledge to ensure compliance to standards and specifications.
Education :
High School Diploma or GEDEssential Functions & Responsibilities
With the assistance of a supervisor or journeyman machinist plan machining by studying work orders, blueprints, engineering plans, materials, specifications, orthographic drawings, reference planes, locations of surfaces, and machining parameters : interpreting geometric dimensions and tolerance.Utilize knowledge of working properties and machining processes for a wide variety of materials such as stainless steels, duplex stainless steels, cast iron, ni-resist, carbon steels and aluminum.Programing CNC mills and lathes by entering instructions, including zero and reference points; setting tool registers, offsets, compensation; calculating requirements, including basic math, geometry, and trigonometry; proving part programs.Loads raw materials into machine by lifting stock into position.Sets-up mills and lathes by installing and adjusting chucks, cutting tools and work holding attachments.Continuous improvement effort to reduce cycle times while maintaining quality standards.Performs all deburring on parts that are running.Intermediate knowledge of tool holders, cutting tools, coring bars, fixtures and other accessories used on various CNC machines.Other duties as assigned by supervisor.Required Skills :
Ability to interpret blueprints and schematics.Possess working knowledge of complex shop math including algebra, trigonometry and geometry.Good communication skills both verbal and written.Excellent hand-eye coordination.Working Conditions
Working conditions are normal for a welding environment where exposure to moving mechanical parts, sharp cutting tools, dust, fumes and airborne particles, temperature extremes and elevated noise level.Employees must regularly lift and or move up to 25 pounds and frequently lift and or move more than 75 pounds.While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to stand, stoop, kneel, climb, crouch, talk and hear.Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.Machinery operation requires the use of safety equipment to include but not limited to; eye safety glasses, hearing protection and work boots.Birdon offers a full benefits package including :
