Job Summary and Qualifications
The Respiratory Therapist coordinates and delivers high-quality, patient-centered respiratory care in accordance with the nature and specific requirements of the department, and consistent with the scope and standards of practice for the relevant state and specialty. As a vital part of the patient care team, the Respiratory Therapist performs a variety of diagnostic tests and therapeutic procedures and monitors patients receiving invasive and noninvasive mechanical ventilation.
Performs designated duties related to planning, coordinating and delivery of respiratory care and other patient care services to ensure optimum patient care in a safe environment. Directs the respiratory practitioners and technicians when appropriate.
Required Minimum Education
Completion of a two-year Associate of Science respiratory care program or Equivalent.
Required Additional Education
PREFERRED EDUCATION : Completion of a four-year respiratory care program with a Bachelor of Science in Respiratory Care. Required License / CertificationAmerican Red Cross or American Heart Association (BLS OR BCLS, and ALS OR ACLS) Course Completion and Certification. RRT, Current license as a Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) by the Texas Department of Health. Licensed as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) . Training and Experience
One year of clinical practice in respiratory care in an acute care hospital setting. Advanced credentials in one or more of the following : NBRC Specialty (pediatric / neonatal or pulmonary function), NRP or PALS (preferred).
Skills and KnowledgeGood oral and written communication, ability to read, write, speak and understand English. Ability to move freely, reach, bend, lift, push, pull and manipulate equipment and controls. Special knowledge of respiratory practices and equipment. Basic computer skills
Ability to quickly recognize problems and collect data in order to make appropriate decisions in critical situations.
Ability to perform mathematical skills including medical dosage calculations and cardiopulmonary
