Responsible for the daily operation of the Children’s department. Coordinates all children’s programming within the Library and with outside agencies. Develops and maintains the children’s collections of books, periodicals and audio-visual materials. Writes grant applications. Provides reference and reader advisory services. Handles publicity and community outreach on behalf of the children’s department. Coordinates with other departments on multi-generational programming, and serves as back-up staff for other departments throughout the library. Supervises paraprofessional staff and volunteers.

Qualifications

Experience with historical collections preferred. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Comfortable using computers and basic office machinery.

Special Requirements

MLS preferred; Bachelor’s degree required. Three years of library experience. Experience planning library programs and working with older children in groups. Considerable knowledge of library resources and of age-appropriate literature. Familiarity with Evergreen software desired.
