Maintenance Specialist
The Saraland Board of Education is accepting applications for the following classified position.
Qualifications :
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Five (5) years of experience in the designated trade / skill area, or a combination of training and experience
- Possess and maintain a valid Alabama bus driver license (BDL) and commercial driver's license (CDL) within six (6) months of employment
- Ability to perform general school facility maintenance
- Ability to meet suitability criteria for employment and / or certification / licensure under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457
- Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions relevant to specific trades
- Ability to read and follow plans, directions, and layouts
- Ability to estimate time and materials required for efficient project completion
- Ability to climb and work from scaffolding, ladders, and heights, as well as in confined spaces
- Physical ability to sit or stand for extended periods, stoop, kneel, crawl, bend, turn, and reach
- Strength and agility to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and exert up to 75 pounds of force
- Willingness to work indoors and outdoors year-round, including in noisy, crowded environments and inclement weather
- Willingness to work after hours, weekends, or holidays as necessary
- Such alternative qualifications as the Board may require
Reports To : Director of Operations
Performance Responsibilities :
Support and promote the school system's mission, vision, beliefs, and goalsMaintain positive public relations for the school and school systemMaintain regular and punctual attendance; follow procedures for recording attendance and submitting leave requestsReport to assigned locations at designated times, prepared to perform duties as directed by the Director of OperationsAvoid outside employment that interferes with the effective discharge of dutiesPerform general construction tasks (e.g., framing, drywall installation, doors, windows, painting, decking)Perform carpentry tasks (e.g., attaching cork strips, mounting bulletin boards, repairing desks and chairs)Replace light bulbs, ceiling tiles, and gridsPerform routine plumbing tasks (e.g., unclogging toilets, urinals, and drains)Conduct touch-up painting, floor / carpet tile repair, and minor concrete work (e.g., sidewalks, pads)Complete work orders independently, ensuring projects meet trade standards and are completed efficiently and neatlyPrioritize tasks and use time effectivelyMaintain appropriate confidentiality regarding school and workplace mattersDemonstrate initiative in identifying problems or opportunities for improvementReport potential problems, unusual events, or irregularities to supervisory personnelRespond promptly and positively to inquiries, requests, and feedbackMaintain and submit reports, records, and correspondence in a timely, accurate mannerProperly use and care for tools, equipment, and material resourcesAdhere to school system rules, administrative procedures, Board policies, and applicable lawsPerform other job-related duties as assigned by the Director of OperationsTerms of Employment : Twelve (12) month contract
Evaluation : Performance evaluated in accordance with Board policy
Salary : Board approved salary schedule
