Major Duties And Responsibilities
This position performs street maintenance and repair duties.
- Constructs or repairs driveways, speed bumps, spill ways, cuts, overlays, edge ruts, and potholes.
- Sets up work related signs and traffic cones; directs traffic at work sites.
- Spreads, smoothes, and shapes asphalt.
- Operates wheelbarrow to transport asphalt; applies asphalt as appropriate.
- Loads and unloads truck with proper materials.
- Applies tar.
- Operates roller and dump truck.
- Cleans truck and other equipment.
- Grades ground for concrete work; sets up concrete forms.
- Assists in the cleaning and maintenance of the fleet yard.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
Knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques utilized in the performance of street maintenance activities.Knowledge of the tools and equipment used in the performance of street maintenance activities.Knowledge of the safe operation of assigned equipment.Skill in problem solving and decision making.Skill in the operation of hand tools and other assigned equipment.Skill in oral and written communication.Ability to read, write, and perform basic mathematical calculations.Minimum Educational And Training Requirements
Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of specialized training in the occupational field, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education. No experience requirements.
Physical Requirements
The work is typically performed while intermittently sitting, standing, stooping, walking, bending, or crouching. The employee occasionally lifts light and heavy objects, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, and must be able to distinguish between shades of color.

The employee may be exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, and machinery with moving parts. The work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, or gloves.

Employees in the pension plan must meet both age and years of service requirements to qualify for retirement. The current vesting period is ten years, and the current pension contribution rate is 8% of your gross salary.
