Responsibilities
The Department of Anthropology at Florida State University invites applications for a Visiting Teaching Faculty I position in Anthropology for the 2026-2027 academic year. This is a 12-month contract position. We are seeking a dynamic colleague with demonstrated ability to teach in Anthropological Archaeology and / or Biological Anthropology in our undergraduate program. The geographic focus for this position is open.
Teaching faculty at FSU typically carry a 4-4-2 teaching load and are expected to participate in the shared governance of the department and university. Teaching expectations may be adjusted based on class size and service commitments, but could include Introduction to Anthropology, Childhood Around the World, Great Apes and / or World Prehistory as well as other courses chosen in consultation with the Department Chair and the Chair of the Curriculum Committee. Primary responsibilities include teaching required courses for the undergraduate major, as well as upper-division courses aligned with the candidates area of expertise. Instruction will primarily be in person, but some online instruction may be possible if the candidate desires.
Qualifications
Academic doctorate or highest level terminal degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate field of specialization or equivalent qualifications based on professional experience and otherwise qualified to perform assigned duties, with a demonstrated record of effectiveness in teaching anthropology. ABD candidates will be considered.
Preferred Qualifications
Evidence of excellence in teaching anthropology.
