Description :
The staff Registered Nurse (RN) is a professional caregiver responsible for a group of patients during a designated time frame.
The RN provides care to these patients utilizing the nursing process, trends, technology, financial and human resources within the philosophy of the institution.
Responsibilities include performing all duties required by the unit as specific to the scope of service.
The RN implements procedures and theories related to the specific area of practice.
Maintaining up-to-date and accurate documentation of nursing care provided ensures integration of information for the healthcare team.
The RN completes an initial assessment upon patient admission and develops an appropriate plan of care based on patient and family needs.
The plan of care, nursing interventions, and patient care procedures are then implemented.
Modifications to the plan of care are made based upon continuous evaluation.
The RN takes responsibility for patient and employee safety by reporting and / or correcting safety hazards and incidents.
Effective communication with others is essential to resolve issues promptly.
Constructive feedback is offered to assist in the professional development of peers.
The RN confers with colleagues to expand their knowledge base.
Identifying one's own learning needs and taking the initiative to provide appropriate solutions is expected.
Fulfilling all requirements of departmental competencies is necessary.
Department-specific functions include providing care to the inpatient obstetric patient.
Fetal well-being is monitored continuously.
Medication specific to the obstetric patient is administered by the RN.
Patient education tailored to the obstetric population is provided.
Participation in the intrapartum care of the patient and newborn during labor, delivery, and surgical delivery is essential.
