Unit Coordinator

The Unit Coordinator is a specialized role focused on administrative duties and communication. The UC serves as the administrative support and answering phone for the unit. The Unit Coordinator greets all patients and assists in new patient orientation to the unit. This position will perform clerical duties and tasks to allow the unit to run smoothly. The Unit Coordinator position is critical in allowing direct care staff the ability to remain engaged and focused on patient care activities.
Duties and Responsibilities :
- Role models appropriate behaviors, attitudes, social skills, and self-care
- Support nursing staff with administrative tasks
- Demonstrates effective communication and customer relations by answering telephone promptly, within 3 rings; communicates with referral sources and families with etiquette; minimize transfers to other departments; Greets visitors simultaneously with professional demeanor; Pages hospital and medical staff; Facilitates immediate response to emergency codes.
- Prepares new charts; loose filing; prepare charts for discharge.
- Assists with prevention and management of crisis situations in the milieu
- Conducts thorough inventory and documentation of patient personal belongings.
- Track lab results, monitoring lab turnaround time.
- Files, faxes, and photocopies documents as needed.
- Serves as a resource for staff and other disciplines.
- Serves as the liaison for the unit.
- Assures nursing station is neat, clean, organized and not cluttered.
- Assures non-administrative personnel do not congregate in the nursing station.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications :
Minimum QualificationsEducation : Bachelors Degree preferred or five years experience in healthcareExperience : Minimum one year office receptionist experience or equivalent; Previous experience as an Administrative Assistant or Unit Clerk preferably in a service setting.License / Certification : Valid TX Driver's License CPR within first week of orientation CPI within first week of orientationSkills and Abilities :Excellent communication and customer service skillsMust have a professional appearance at all timesPossess good judgment and works well with varied groups of individualsAbility to demonstrate an alert, sensitive and supportive attitude with patients, families, employees, and management.Responds to patients with empathy and positive interpersonal skills.Demonstrates willingness to cooperate with others.Maintains annual training and competencies.Proficient in documentation organization and time management skillsWorking knowledge of computer systems and office equipmentEffective decision making and problem solving.Benefits :
