Assists as needed with fire prevention activities and inspections as assigned; performs technical and administrative tasks in support of the department's fire prevention and life safety programs; may represent the department at inspections, community risk reduction events, and code-related inquiries; works under the direction of the Fire Marshal or Fire Chief.
- Performs inspection of buildings for fire hazards and compliance with fire prevention ordinances; investigates complaints and alleged violations of building and property maintenance codes and ordinances; inspects property sites for conformance with regulations and interprets building and zoning codes.
- Conducts plan review, installation inspections, and permit inspections of fire sprinkler and suppression systems, fire alarm systems, and any other fire-related or safety reviews needed.
- Performs inspections of buildings for fire hazards and compliance with fire prevention ordinances.
- Performs fire inspections and follows up with owners / occupants as needed or to resolve outstanding code violations.
- Assists in the development and maintenance of an effective system of records and reports of inspections, investigations, and other activities as required by the State of Texas and the Department.
- When requested by the fire chief or the fire marshal, assists with fire investigations.
- Works closely and cooperatively with community development staff, building officials, city engineers, architects, designers, and the public.
- Continually helps maintain, develop, and implement industry Best Practices.
- Performs specialized functions in areas of expertise such as fire, EMS, and operations, as requested by the Fire Marshal or the Fire Chief.

Education, Training, and Experience
Bachelor's degree in Fire Science, Business or Public Administration, or related field; OR an equivalent combination of experience and education; AND two (2) years' certified Fire Inspector experience.
License and Certification Requirements
Must possess a valid Texas Class B Exempt driver's license or higher.Certifications for Firefighter, Fire Inspector, and Fire Investigator from Texas Commission on Fire Protection (TCFP) and Emergency Medical Technician-Basic from Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) are required; additional technical certifications and training may be required.Physical Demands and Working Environment
Work is performed outdoors and indoors at emergency incident sites and in fire station facilities; requires strenuous physical efforts, and the ability to lift and move items weighing up to one hundred (100) pounds; may be exposed to environmental allergens, gases, fumes, hazardous chemicals, communicable diseases, and potential physical harm.
