SUMMARY : The Spanish Bilingual Interpreter Program Assistant providesinterpretation and translation as needed in the various clinics for ourSpanish-speaking patients. The Incumbentwill provide clerical support for dental clinic operations as needed for frontdesk and call center that includes and not limited to scheduling and confirmingappointments and working directly with patients, residents, pre-doctoralstudents and staff.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

1. Orallyinterpret and translate conversations in Spanish to provide accuratecommunication between our Spanish-speaking patients and non-Spanish speakingproviders.

2. Responsiblefor floating between clinics to provide support for those who need aninterpreter.

3. Responsiblefor telephone coverage of the front desk, operating paging system, taking anddistributing messages, and answering all callers' questions.

4. Providesexcellent customer service to patients arriving for appointments. Pagesfaculty, students and staff to inform them of patient arrival.

5. Schedulesappointments to accommodate patients; resolves scheduling conflicts and fits inemergency appointments. Confirmsappointments with patients for the next business day.

6. Verifiescontact information and that insurance or medical assistance are still in force. Gets insurance pre-authorization ofcoverage. Informs patient of today'scharges and any previous balance due before any service is rendered.

7. Requestspayment for any procedures in accordance with the University of Maryland DentalSchool's policies and procedures guidelines. Responds to inquires about patient's account.Requests payment when account is delinquent; may assist Patient AccountSpecialist to correct errors when necessary.

8. Handlesday-to-day payment transactions makes change; receives checks; processes creditcard transactions; issues receipts; validates parking.

9. Processesand reconciles daily receipt with AxiUM daily ledger and deposit receipts intothe night deposit box.

EDUCATION and / or EXPERIENCE : High school diploma or general education degree (GED); 1 - 3years' related experience. Relatededucation may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

Required Knowledge / Skills / Abilities : Must fluently speak and understand Spanish and English. Knowledge of standard office procedures; mustbe able to operate computer and other office machines, such as fax, calculator,answering telephones, as well greeting visitors and so on. Skill in filing documents according toalphabetic and numeric sequences; in operating manual and automated officeequipment; Ability to apply close attention to detail in performing routineclerical tasks. Ability to follow oraland written instructions. Ability to maintaineffective work relationships.

ADDITIONALCONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT :

Thecandidate will be required to be a certified interpreter or be willing to getcertification after they are hired. UMFDSP covers the cost of the certification and the candidate will have one yearfrom their start date to successfully acquire the certification. Overtime andshift work may be required.
