About the Role

Fivetran is seeking a highly technical, detail-oriented, and strategic Chief Accounting Officer (CAO) to lead our global accounting, controllership, and tax organization. Reporting directly to the CFO, the CAO will be a critical member of the Finance leadership team, responsible for ensuring financial integrity, compliance, and scalable operations across our high-growth SaaS business.

The ideal candidate has guided a tech company through public company readiness, bringing hands‑on expertise in enterprise software accounting, revenue recognition, and order‑to‑cash complexities, with a foundation in Big 4 audit. This is a high‑impact leadership role requiring technical mastery, operational excellence, and a strong focus on process automation and team development.

This is a full‑time position based in our Oakland office. Our hybrid work model offers a blend of remote flexibility and in‑person collaboration, including two days in the office each week to connect and build as a team.

What You’ll Do

Global Accounting & Controllership Leadership

  • Lead and scale the global accounting, tax, payroll, and controllership functions.
  • Oversee the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and alignment with internal and external reporting requirements.
  • Oversee equity accounting, tax accounting, and other complex technical areas

Technical & Strategic Accounting

  • Serve as the company’s primary authority on technical accounting, particularly revenue recognition under ASC 606 for enterprise software and consumption‑based models
  • Drive the accounting implications of new products, pricing models, and strategic transactions (M&A, financing, partnerships)
  • Maintain rigorous accounting policies and a strong internal control environment
  • Governance, Risk & Controls

  • Ensure effective SOX 404 compliance, internal controls, and audit readiness
  • Partner with Internal Audit, FP&A, and cross‑functional leaders to maintain governance and prevent control gaps
  • Operational Excellence

  • Manage Financial Reporting and ensure the timely and accurate preparation and filing of all financial statements, including Forms 10-K, 10-Q, 8-K, and other SEC disclosures, in compliance with U.S. GAAP, SEC regulations, and PCAOB requirements
  • Engage with the Audit Committee and external auditors
  • Support capital markets readiness, including equity and debt offerings
  • Leadership & Operational Transformation

  • Build, mentor and coach a world‑class accounting team
  • Drive modernizing accounting processes through automation, process improvement, and systems upgrades across order‑to‑cash, procure‑to‑pay, and record‑to‑report
  • Champion a culture of accountability, precision, and continuous improvement
  • Skills We’re Looking For

  • 15+ years of progressive accounting and finance leadership experience.
  • Prior experience as Controller or Chief Accounting Officer at a U.S. public company.
  • Proven track record in IPO readiness and public company transitions.
  • 5+ years of experience in enterprise software / SaaS, with deep expertise in revenue recognition (ASC 606) and order‑to‑cash complexities.
  • Experience with consumption‑based revenue models.
  • 5+ years in companies with $200M+ revenue or ARR.
  • CPA with Big 4 audit experience.
  • Deep knowledge of U.S. GAAP, SEC regulations, PCAOB standards, and SOX compliance.
  • Expertise in scaling accounting functions for high‑growth companies and developing high‑performing teams.
  • Strong communication skills with Boards, Audit Committees, and external auditors.
  • Hands‑on, detail‑oriented accounting mindset with a focus on automation and efficiency.
