The Safety Assistant is responsible for maintaining a safe and therapeutic environment for patients, staff, and visitors within the Behavioral Health Unit or other units as needed. This role supports clinical staff by monitoring patient behavior, ensuring unit safety protocols are followed, assisting in crisis situations, and promoting de-escalation techniques when needed.
Job Responsibilities
- Completes all annual training, including Annual health test, Educode, CPI, Restraints, and department competencies.
- Displays a willingness to work with other team members. Promotes a high standard of morals and teamwork throughout the hospital and departments. Supports and follows all Administrative and department policies.
- Punctual in attendance, assignments and follows chain of command to insure proficiency in overall operations of SRH. Completes all assignments and responsibilities assigned.
- Perform and display the ability to carry a great deal of responsibilities in handling difficult situations as they happen. Communicate effectively with people of various cultures and backgrounds. Exhibits emotional maturity by remaining calm and objective in providing leadership in emotionally charged situations. When required, strength and endurance to perform duties.
- Responsible for the enforcement of South Carolina criminal laws of the state and county. Performs all other duties as assigned by Security Manager, Captain, shift lieutenants, and shift sergeants.
- Monitor patient activity and behavior to ensure safety and prevent self-harm or aggressive behavior.
- Support staff during behavioral emergencies, applying de-escalation techniques and, when necessary, assisting in physical interventions as part of a team.
- Conduct regular safety rounds and environment checks, reporting any safety hazards or concerns immediately.
- Escort patients within the facility
- Document patient incidents accurately and in a timely manner.
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA standards.
- Demonstrate professional and compassionate behavior when interacting with patients and families.
Education And Skills Qualifications
High Diploma or GED required2 Years of experience in security or related field preferably in a healthcare environment preferred
