The Controls Engineer works directly with electrical control systems and hardware integration. They must be well versed in PLC programming products (e.g., Siemens, Allen-Bradley, Automation Direct) that integrate with multiple input and output sources to create automated control systems. This role involves hands-on development and collaboration with team members to translate automation requirements into production solutions using software engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria. This position is based in our Canton, Michigan office.

Salary Range

$91,000 - $100,000 per year based on skills and experience.

Responsibilities

• Must always conduct yourself in a safe manner.
• Must comply with all company and customer safety and personnel policies and adhere to OSHA safety standards. Support and participate in activities that enhance the current safety culture at the site.
• Ability to travel up to 50% of the time at times of project implementation and could require extended stays at various locations during those times.
• Must be able to work weekends and overtime when needed.
• Complete work according to written and / or verbal instructions, including directions as set forth.
• Perform and / or support, but not limited to :
• Design systems that can automate processes.
• Master multi-tasker.
• Design controls systems including panels and programs.
• Lead design reviews in house and / or with the customer.
• Define / design PLC ladder logic that supports the necessary controls interface, including all equipment safety parameters.
• Develop project bill of materials.
• Perform investigations and experiments to prove out new technology.
• Upgrades and repairs to existing controls / equipment.
• Develop project timelines.
• Troubleshoot control issues, including PLC ladder logic, inputs, and outputs.
• Analyze plant processes, design and implement improvements.
• Work with others to detect problems and implement solutions.
• Perform equipment start-up and verification, both on site and at the customer site.
• Maintain controls spare parts inventory and the requisition of replacement parts.
• Document and record design, inspection and / or repair information / data.
• Perform other duties assigned from time to time by management team.
