Overview
Northrop Grumman is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer (Level 2) / Principal Mechanical Design Engineer (Level 3) to join our Test and Evaluation organization in Melbourne, FL. This role offers opportunities to create and visualize cutting-edge designs through immersive 3D lab environments and contribute to aerospace projects.

Key Responsibilities
- Develop, design, and document mechanical layouts, racks, test fixtures, and lab equipment to support system integration and testing.
- Perform 3D modeling and layout of lab environments using Siemens NX or similar CAD tools.
- Generate and release detailed mechanical drawings and parts lists in compliance with ASME Y14.5 and company standards.
- Work closely with suppliers to procure fabricated components, manage quotes, track part deliveries, and resolve manufacturing issues.
- Support integration and assembly efforts—ensuring designed components meet functional, safety, and maintainability requirements.
- Participate in design reviews, configuration management, and documentation control through PLM systems.
- Collaborate across disciplines to ensure alignment with electrical, thermal, and environmental design constraints.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of drawing standards, workflows, and design automation.
Basic Qualifications
Mechanical Design Engineer (Level 2) : Bachelor's Degree in a STEM discipline and 2 years of related professional / military experience; OR a Master's Degree in a STEM discipline and 0 years of related professional / military experience.Active DoD Secret or higher clearance (with a background investigation completed within the last 6 years or currently enrolled into Continuous Evaluation).Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Top Secret Clearance and Special Access Program (SAP) clearance within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company.Demonstrated ability in utilizing CAD software in a design capacity (e.g., SolidWorks, CATIA, or similar).Principal Mechanical Design Engineer (Level 3) – Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in a STEM discipline and 5 years of related professional / military experience; OR Master's Degree in a STEM discipline and 3 years of related experience; OR Ph.D. in a STEM discipline and 1 year of related experience.Active DoD Secret or higher clearance (with a background investigation completed within the last 6 years or currently enrolled into Continuous Evaluation).Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Top Secret Clearance and SAP clearance within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company.Demonstrated ability in utilizing CAD software in a design capacity (e.g., SolidWorks, CATIA, or similar).Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electromechanical Engineering or related field.Experience with creating and maintaining BOMs.Hands-on experience coordinating with suppliers.Understanding of test engineering concepts (e.g. developing and executing ATPs, test station design and development).Active Top Secret Clearance.Compensation and Benefits
Primary Level Salary Range : $77,200.00 - $115,800.00
Secondary Level Salary Range : $95,300.00 - $142,900.00
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Senior roles may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
