Description :
Department : Labor and Delivery
Unit has 5 LDRP beds and 1 OR suite for C-sections.
There are no triage beds and 3 postpartum beds available.
Approximately 18-20 births occur per month, totaling around 225 births per year.
The unit follows AWHONN guidelines for nurse-to-patient ratios, with 3 nurses on duty during the day and 2 at night.
Required certifications include BLS and NRP, with AWHONN preferred.
Common diagnoses include pre-eclampsia and gestational diabetes if well-controlled.
The unit typically transfers out high-risk patients if it is safe to do so.
The unit manages deliveries for patients who are 36 weeks and above; lower than this may require transfer out when safe.
The RN position requires competence with titrating drips such as Pitocin, Magnesium, and occasional insulin.
Charge nurses handle assignments on this unit, and there are no nurse aides or surgical techs available.
OB and Neonatology physicians are on call 24 / 7 with a list for response within 10-15 minutes.
Anesthesia is in-house during the day and on call at night.
RNs must be proficient with EFM documentation using the GE CPN monitor system, as there are no techs on the unit.
The unit utilizes a Neopuff T Piece for respiratory care equipment.
The schedule may allow for block scheduling with some flexibility.
Nurses are expected to work 2 weekends per 4-week schedule and alternate holidays.
There is a call requirement of 2 shifts per 4-week schedule, with a one-hour response time.
Floating to other departments may be necessary on low census days, where RNs may assist as CNA helpers.
The dress code includes purple scrubs, which are provided.
The unit may offer 1-2 days of department-specific orientation.
The charting system used is EPIC.
