The Group Counselor plays a vital role within a multidisciplinary team, aiding clients by evaluating their requirements and capabilities to promote their well-being and rehabilitation. They conduct counseling sessions predominantly in group settings and occasionally one-on-one, lead educational activities, adhere to program guidelines when delivering content, handle case management duties, and help clients access care systems, all within a nurturing treatment atmosphere.
This is a union position.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Direct Service :
Facilitate education and group counseling sessions in residential, outpatient, or field depending on assignment and agency need.Occasionally facilitate individual counseling sessions as assigned.Provide orientation to group treatment culture and norms.Utilize trauma-informed care, motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral therapy, and evidence-based practices.Transport clients when assigned.Assist clients in navigating systems of care.Treatment Setting :
Work collaboratively with treatment team members.Seek consultation and supervision for challenging clinical circumstances.Ensure groups start and finish on time.Ensure that clients maintain compliance with group attendance and expectations.Documentation :
Track client progress in group sessions.Complete client urinalysis and document test results.Write and complete progress notes in a timely manner.Maintain compliance with clinical documentation standards, policies, and deadlines.Administrative :
Maintain compliance with client care hours per week.Arrange work schedule according to agency needs.Respond to emails when appropriate.Participate in meetings, supervision, and training opportunities.Complete assigned training in a timely manner.Maintain registration or certification compliance.And perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education, Certification, or Licensure
High school diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Psychology, or other related field preferred.Registration or Certification as a Substance Use Disorder Counselor from an accredited California agency (CCAPP, CAADE, CADTP).Valid First Aid and CPR certification or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.Valid California Driver's License and access to registered and insured transportation.Experience
Experience providing counseling sessions with individuals with co-occurring disorders in an individual or group setting.Background Check and Other Requirements
Capable of obtaining and maintaining a satisfactory background check. Applicants must not be on parole or probation due to funding regulations. Qualified candidates with a criminal record will be considered for employment.Capable of meeting health screening and tuberculosis testing requirements.Capable of maintaining credential requirements.Capable of meeting program requirements.Must complete background check and livescan clearance.
