Transfer Site Attendant 2 - 2960

On-call non-benefited position / No guarantee of hours

Job Summary : This position performs duties to support public solid waste disposal programs at the Douglas County transfer site and landfills in accordance with defined policies, procedures and guidelines.

Essential Functions :

  • Direct, advise and assist users of landfills or transfer sites in proper disposal procedures
  • Monitor incoming traffic and disposal areas for special waste
  • Explain and enforce departmental policy and procedures
  • Provide recycle information
  • Issue warnings and citations; report violations
  • Notify County staff when transfer boxes are full and require removal to landfill site.
  • Prepare boxes for transport to main landfill.
  • Assist County staff in loading and unloading drop boxes from tractor units and level out waste material within bins; raise and lower screened covers
  • Maintain transfer site area; sweep stalls when transfer box is removed
  • Collect special waste fees and maintain related paperwork.
  • Assist collection franchisees in cleaning debris; sweep brow log area after collection has unloaded
  • Resolve problems associated with facility users
  • Collect waste fees; maintain cash box and related paperwork
  • Maintain daily log of activities, incidents, violations, waste volumes
  • At landfill - weigh all incoming loads; maintain log of incidents, violations and waste volumes. Monitor wood waste, tire and glass areas for unauthorized disposal
  • May be required to monitor community corrections offenders assigned to transfer site
  • Open and close site at appointed hour; open and close barrier gates for permit holders.

Skills / Qualifications : This is not an exhaustive or all-inclusive list of responsibilities, skills, duties or functions associated with the job. Any equivalent combination of education and experience, which demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities required, will be considered. However, the following is preferred :

  • Two years combination of experience or training dealing with the public and in interpretation of policy and procedures.
  • Background Investigation : While not part of initial applicant screening, the finalist for this position may be required to pass a criminal history background check as part of a contingent offer of employment. Physical Examination / Drug Screen : Employment is contingent upon a pre-employment drug screen. Presence of non-prescribed drugs, including marijuana, on drug screen results will result in disqualification pursuant to the County's drug and alcohol policy. To determine if physically qualified to perform essential functions, employment offer is conditional upon satisfactory results of a post-offer medical and hearing exam conducted at county expense.
