TITLE : Aide / Associate
LOCATION : Oak Hill Elementary (Tiffin, IA)
JOB SUMMARY : Assist teachers in the instruction, supervision and care of students with disabilities in a variety of instructional settings, including special education, general education and work / community settings in order to enhance student learning, promote the overall efficiency of the school, and maximize the educational opportunities available to each child.
QUALIFICATIONS :
- Previous experience working with children preferred but not required
- Post-secondary coursework in educational field preferred but not required
- Initiative to be a self-starter
- Intuitive to the needs of the student
- Ability to work well with classroom teacher, support staff, administrators, AEA and parents of student as part of an educational team
- Ability to be flexible in assignment given
- Ability to use good judgment when unexpected problems arise
- Ability to use office equipment
- May be assigned other related duties in addition to those listed above
SPECIFIC DUTIES :

Attend work on a prompt and regular basisMaintain confidentialityMaintain satisfactory and harmonious working relationships with the public, students, and other employeesAssist classroom teacher with educational activitiesTake directions from teachers, building administratorsFollow behavior management plans for individual studentsMaintain students' daily behavior logsAssist in the implementation and monitoring of students' Individual Education PlansPrepare and organize instructional materials and equipmentPerform personal care duties for students with disabilities as neededPrepare and supervise students in bus loading / unloading. May include riding the bus, supervising students, collecting daily logs and implementing behavior intervention plan.Assist in maintaining a safe and orderly instructional environmentAssist in implementing school-wide and classroom consistent behavior management strategies and proceduresSupervise lunchroom, playground, halls, classroom and other assigned areasClarify and reinforce teacher directionsParticipate in I.E.P. meetings as requiredAssist with instruction in the community setting as requiredAssist students with assignmentsReinforce skills taught by the teacherListen to students read / read to studentsChart / graph student performanceOrganize daily student work foldersPrepare attendance cards and reportsAddress and provide physical and health supports (feeding and toileting)Under teacher direction, implement specific strategies to maintain / increase appropriate behavior and de-escalate inappropriate behaviorSupervise students in community / work settingsLift, carry and correctly position students with physical disabilitiesPerform other activities as required by building Principal or teachersReasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this job.
