Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented, analytical, and experienced Construction Project Estimator to prepare accurate and competitive cost estimates for both new residential construction and remodeling projects. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in estimating, construction methods, and project management, with a passion for delivering precise, well-structured budgets that align with scope and client expectations. This role works closely with architects, designers, subcontractors, and clients to ensure all cost projections are realistic, comprehensive, and support successful project delivery.
Responsibilities
- Analyze architectural drawings, specifications, and other documentation to prepare time, cost, and labor estimates for residential projects.
- Estimate costs for materials, labor, equipment, and subcontractor work for both new builds and remodels.
- Conduct site visits—particularly for remodels—to evaluate conditions, take measurements, and identify potential cost implications.
- Collaborate with project managers, construction supervisors, designers, and clients to define project scopes and timelines.
- Obtain and evaluate vendor and subcontractor bids, ensuring accuracy and cost-effectiveness.
- Prepare and present detailed estimate reports, bid packages, and budget breakdowns.
- Identify cost-saving opportunities, potential project risks, and value engineering options.
- Update estimates as project scope changes or as additional information becomes available.
- Maintain a database of unit costs, pricing trends, and construction methods.
- Assist with contract negotiations and change order management as required.
- Create and implement estimating software systems such as PlanSwift, Buildertrend, Houzz, ProEst, Bluebeam, or similar.
Qualifications
7+ years of experience in residential construction estimating (both new builds and remodels).Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, and building codes.Proficiency with estimating software such as PlanSwift, Buildertrend, Houzz, ProEst, Bluebeam, or similar.Ability to read and interpret construction plans, blueprints, and technical documents.Exceptional math, analytical, and organizational skills.Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities, with client-facing experience preferred.Knowledge of local permitting processes and regulations for remodels and new builds.High attention to detail and accuracy in cost forecasting.Bachelor\'s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or related field preferred (or equivalent experience).Valid driver\'s license and willingness to travel to job sites as needed.Preferred Skills
Experience with kitchen, bathroom, basement, and full-home remodels.Familiarity with green building practices and energy-efficient materials.Knowledge of local subcontractor networks and supplier relationships.Strong negotiation skills and vendor management experience.Ability to manage multiple estimates and deadlines simultaneously.Comfort using spreadsheets, estimating software, and CRM / project management platforms.Compensation & Location
