Senior Tooling Engineer
Location : Detroit, MI (Hybrid)
Employment Type : Full Time | Direct Hire
Compensation : $105,000 – $120,000 / year
Overview :
Reliance One, Inc. is hiring a Senior Tooling Engineer for one of our clients. This position facilitates the comprehensive management of site tooling in alignment with company Tooling System standards. The Senior Tooling Engineer drives continuous improvement and fosters collaboration across manufacturing, engineering, purchasing, and general stores to ensure tooling-related activities and concerns are effectively communicated and managed.
Key Responsibilities :
- Identify and support continuous improvement activities related to quality (scrap reduction), productivity (cycle time), and cost (CPU), following company Tool Testing Procedures and fair testing practices.
- Maintain technical tooling documentation, including the Plan for Every Tool (PFET), tooling drawings, and layouts (AutoCAD or similar software).
- Support plant tool presetting operations to ensure accuracy, organization, and best practices.
- Oversee tooling inventory management, reconditioning, and scrap tooling processes.
- Use problem-solving and troubleshooting techniques to resolve machining and production issues.
- Develop cost-per-unit estimates for new jobs based on tooling selection and projected tool life.
- Collaborate with tooling manufacturers and integration partners on new projects, continuous improvement activities, and unexpected machining events.
- Mentor and train tooling and manufacturing engineers at the plant level.
- Partner with plant tool rooms to support forge tool manufacturing processes.
Qualifications :
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience.10+ years of relevant experience in the manufacturing industry with a focus on machining.Detailed knowledge of cutting tools and manufacturing processes.Strong understanding of CNC machining equipment.Advanced analytical ability with proven success solving complex technical challenges.Willingness and ability to travel locally and internationally up to 50% (primarily weekdays).Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) Statement
