Overview
Assistant Consultant, Ports and Marine Engineering role at WSP in the U.S. This position can be based out of New Orleans-LA, Tampa-FL, Houston-TX, or Raleigh-NC.
Responsibilities
- Provide engineering support to other technical staff, engineers, and project managers for the development, design, construction, and inspection of structures and facilities for port, marine, and intermodal rail terminal projects in the public and private sector; facilities may include piers, wharves, port and upland marine terminals, seawalls, dry docks, marinas and other nearshore / offshore facilities.
- Deliver work products that meet or exceed acceptable industry standards for design, safety, and functionality.
- With minimal supervision, collect, compile, and analyze data from the physical work site, survey data, technical reports and drawings, and other data matrices for project development, design, and construction.
- Assist with the development of project design requirements, incorporating marine-practice engineering standards and specifications.
- Identify project site, design and construction related risks and provide input on mitigation activities.
- Write technical reports and documentation of findings using sketches, calculations, excel spreadsheets, technical drawings, and other engineering software.
- Prepare presentations to communicate findings and recommendations to internal and external team members as well as clients.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams and larger multidisciplinary teams on Federal, State, regional, and locally funded improvement and development projects.
- Participate in site visits and inspections to gain practical insights into maritime construction processes.
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct; adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
- Complete all assigned trainings.
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from ABET-accredited program.0 to 1 year of experience; prior engineering internship experiences.Strong interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, and ability to convey ideas effectively to engineering and non-engineering audiences.Capable self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as part of a team.Basic proficiency with technical writing, engineering software and tools, and engineering fundamentals including statics and logical problem-solving.Experience with AutoCAD and SAP2000 and similar tools.Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and the ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug / alcohol and harassment policies.Occasional travel may be required.Preferred Qualifications
1 to 3 years of relevant post-education experience, with exposure to ports and marine structures (including rehabilitation and new design).EIT Certification.Experience with REVIT and MathCAD and other similar software.A member of and / or actively participate in local professional practice organizations.Familiarity with marine and coastal engineering principles, practices and regulations and design / build processes.Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.Please note that as part of the hiring process, WSP may request a copy of your academic transcripts as they pertain to the role's educational requirements.
