Job Description
The Oregon Military Department (OMD) is a state agency that supports and oversees the Oregon Youth Challenge Program. You are NOT required to be in the Oregon National Guard to be considered for this position. OMD is recruiting for 2 Group Life Coordinator 2 positions located within the Oregon Youth Challenge Program in Bend, Oregon (Oregon Youth Challenge High School).
This recruitment will remain open continuously until both positions are filled. The first list of candidates will be pulled on Wednesday, October 16, 2025. This recruitment may close at any time after this date.
This position is classified as a Group Life Coordinator 2; however, candidates who meet the minimum qualifications of Group Life Coordinator 1 are encouraged to apply. Salary Range for GLC1 is $3,854.00 - $4,841.00 monthly. Underfill may be used for up to one year from hire date if needed to fulfill minimum qualifications.
If you work nights, this position offers a night shift schedule from 10 : 00 PM to 6 : 00 AM.

Major duties
What You Will Be Doing
The Oregon Youth Challenge Program is an intensive alternative high school for at-risk 16–18-year-old Oregon dropouts. It is funded, directed and sponsored by the State Military Department and National Guard. The program includes daily academic instruction, physical fitness, and a two-phase structure : a 22-week residential phase and a 12-month post-residential phase focused on life planning and community reintegration. The curriculum emphasizes eight core components : academic excellence, physical fitness, nutrition, community involvement, leadership and followership, health skills, and life planning. The program is located in Bend, Oregon on land owned by the Federal Government on a loan to the State Military Department.
Working Conditions
Must be able to work with or without reasonable accommodations. Occasional lifting and physical exertion. Exposure to adverse weather and environmental conditions. Ability to work various shifts (days, swing, graveyard, weekends, holidays) and occasional overnight travel. May interact with students, parents, and the public. Must transport students in state-owned vehicles. Ability to call military cadence. Extensive walking, marching, and running with students. Standing for entire 8-hour shifts and maintaining physical fitness standards. Personal appearance must meet program requirements. Daily activities include exercise and a potential confidence course to build student confidence. Scheduling may change due to limited resources and drills.
