Job Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a night shift Med Surg position in an acute care setting, requiring a compact or ND RN license and at least 2 years of experience.

Responsibilities

  • Work in a 30-bed acute care Med Surg unit with a focus on post-surgical patients
  • Common patient population includes total joint replacement, spinal surgery, urology procedures, abdominal surgery, bariatrics, medical overflow, and use of hemovacs, JP drains, and colostomies
  • Nurse to patient ratio is 1 : 4-5 on days and 1 : 5-6 on nights
  • Night shifts are 12 hours with every other weekend required
  • Floating required to medical and telemetry units
  • Unit uses the Epic EMR; experience preferred
  • Charge nurse present on every shift; nurse aides and remote monitor techs provide additional support
  • Unit prefers candidates with surgical, post-op, and early ambulation experience
  • Bedside shift report is expected practice
  • First-time travelers will be considered
  • Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility
  • Candidates may not have been employed by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facility in a full-time, part-time, or PRN capacity within the past year
  • Time off requests must be submitted upfront and are limited to 7 days per 13-week contract
  • Holiday coverage will be required as needed
  • Any color scrubs may be worn
  • Requirements

  • Active ND or compact RN license required at time of application; pending licenses not accepted
  • Current BLS certification required
  • Minimum 2 years of recent Med Surg nursing experience required
  • Copy of driver’s license must be provided for consideration
  • Two professional references : one supervisor from within the last 12 months, and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years
