American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a night shift Medical-Surgical position requiring a current CA RN license and strong acute care skills.
\n \n Responsibilities\n
Work in a 45-bed Medical-Surgical unit in an acute care hospital with a combined adult and pediatric patient populationNight shifts are 12 hours in length with every other weekend required and some self-schedulingNurse to patient ratio is typically 1 : 5Care for patients with conditions such as COPD, post-op recovery, GI bleeds, OBGYN surgeries, orthopedic cases, sepsis, altered mental status, chest pain, stroke, cellulitis, and alcohol withdrawalUnit utilizes Cerner EMRHeparin and Protonix drips may be managedCPAP, BiPAP, and high-flow oxygen equipment are used on the unitFirst to float, though floating is not required unless the nurse is qualified and willingThis is a fast-paced unit with an average patient stay of 3 daysUnit is supported by a charge nurse without a patient assignment and nursing assistants, though tech coverage is limited overnightHospitalist available on-site (not 24 / 7)Navy blue scrubs are requiredHoliday shifts are expected as part of permanent staff rotationUnit-specific orientation lasts 2-3 days and includes a scavenger hunt componentMust be willing to take standby or call if neededPrevious employment within the last year by CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity will make a candidate ineligibleFirst-time travelers will be considered\n \n Requirements\n
Active CA RN license required at the time of considerationMinimum 2 years recent experience in Medical-Surgical nursingCurrent BLS certification requiredPALS certification preferred, especially for those with pediatric experienceExperience with acute care patient populationsPediatric experience preferred; those without will not be assigned pediatric patientsMust be able to titrate Heparin dripsCerner charting experience preferredWillingness to undergo unit-specific orientation and relevant competency testing\n Benefits\n
