Staff Attorney

Overview

The Staff Attorney is responsible for conducting legal research, drafting court orders and memoranda and provide support for the Judge of Probate Court.

Responsibilities

• Research and analyze complex legal issues.
• Draft legal opinions and Orders based on research and evidence.
• Assists judge in the management of cases including reviewing and analyzing filings and motions, hearings and judgments
• Review Documents.
• Verify cited legal authority.
• Draft legal documents including trail brief, memoranda, and others.
• Keep abreast of changes in the law.
• Review petitions, motions, or pleadings.
• Review audits of returns for estates and conservatorships, draft citations and manage citation calendar.
• Interface with attorneys and self-represented parties.
• Assist the Clerk of Court, when needed, with administration duties.
• Provides legal advice and opinions to judges and court staff.

The Staff Attorney should possess, at minimum, a juris doctorate and prior legal experience; or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties and responsibilities of the position. Knowledge of Probate and estates is preferred.
