Job Summary
Middle Georgia State University is seeking an experienced Health Science professional and educator to serve as Faculty in the Department of Respiratory Therapy and Health Science. The faculty position will be responsible for didactic and curriculum development, working collaboratively with the Chair, as well as other faculty. This position includes functions related to teaching undergraduate and graduate level courses relevant to the health sciences or public health; advising students; instructing undergraduate internships and experiences; engaging in scholarly activities in areas relevant to the department and university; engaging in community and experiential learning opportunities, and assuming departmental, school and university committee responsibilities and representing the department and university interests internally and externally. The faculty will work closely with the Chair and the Dean along with other departments and partner with other academic units as required. The faculty is responsible for curricular development, innovation, and helping integrate pedagogy into the Health Science program. This includes creating novel signature assignments, working on assignment mapping in courses, course design work that supports continuing development, and implementation of curriculum as an instrument of teaching learning and assessment. Responsibilities
Teaching (60%) -
Instruct assigned didactic courses and internships
Maintain regular office hours and be available to provide help for students.
Prepare course syllabi, outlines, daily plans, and associated materials.
Develop and implement strategies to enhance the quality and effectiveness of courses including curriculum development and review.
Maintain necessary records such as program and class enrollments; plus, grades of student performance.
Demonstrate an ability to be creative in planning and implementation of Health Science objectives.
Service (20%) -
Support service to the university and community through outreach, promoting student engagement relevant to discipline.
Assist, advise, and lead students in professional and student organizations and related activities
Support service to the profession through engagement in relevant discipline projects and / or professional association engagement.
Assist new and continuing students in advisement capacity on courses and programs, with active participation in departmental and university recruitment activities.
Scholarship (20%) -
Maintain in-depth understanding in chosen field which includes participation in professional development and maintenance of valid training status per university policies.
Be technologically literate, knowledgeable, and innovative in the use of a variety of modern teaching technologies including the use of computers and multi-media in lectures, laboratories, and distance learning environments.
Pursue scholarship of teaching and research relevant to the profession discipline.
Student Success & Other Duties
Provide professional contributions to the Department, School, and University.
Assist with outreach activities as requested by the Chair.
Attending regularly scheduled departmental, school, university committee meetings and workshops.
Maintain a positive attitude toward work, students, colleagues and administration.
Establish annual objectives for professional growth in consultation with the Chair.
Work with concurrently enrolled students and faculty.
Contribute to maintaining institutional accreditation.
Assist in the preparation of appropriate University documents such as catalog, handbook, and brochures.
Adherence to the Faculty Handbook of Middle Georgia State University.
Required Qualifications
Required Educational Qualifications
Minimum of master¿s degree from a regionally or nationally accredited agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (USDE), with Master of Science in Health Science, Public Health, or relevant discipline preferred.
Required Experience
A minimum of 2 years of teaching experience in the discipline.
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Educational Qualifications
Doctoral degree in Health Science, Public Health, or relevant discipline from a regionally accredited agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (USDE).
Preferred Experience
Experience in teaching and scholarly research activities.
