Purpose and Scope of Job : Determines best ways to achieve Sumitomo's Machine Shop Manufacturing goals.
Plans and designs manufacturing processes (Equipment, tools & fixtures, manpower, machining cell layout) to meet prescribed product quality, throughput, profitability and safety standards.
Maximizes efficiency & productivity of Machining cells by analyzing statistical data and making data driven decisions.
Manages Corporate and / or Departmental projects that have a strong Manufacturing focus.
A. CNC Programming
Team Lead for CNC Programming (G & M Code) for machining cells (turning, milling, drilling & reaming, precision welding, bending, forming, sheet metal fabrication, etc). Prepare and maintain detailed Process Sheets, Process Maps, Standard Operating Procedures and Poka-Yoke systems. Design Jigs & Fixtures for Machine tools; Research work holding solutions that reduce setup times and eliminate rework. Work closely with Machine shop supervisors, quality assurance, and maintenance personnel to proactively prevent problems with machining cells and tooling / fixtures. Ensure all manufacturing safety regulatory policies and procedures are implemented and maintained at all times.
B. Process Improvement
Use SPC techniques and systematic Problem Solving methods as required to analyze data and ensure efficient production methods and quality results. Conduct time studies to analyze processes & validate recommended process changes. Actively champion & maintain a culture of 5S (Sort, Set and Order, Shine, Standardize and Sustain) in the machine shop. Design, Introduce and Maintain Lean Manufacturing practices such as Single Piece flow systems, Perfect First pass yield, Autonomation & Visual factory. Analyze and design Lean Machining cells using effective systems and simulation tools to optimize the use of space, equipment, tools, material and personnel. Increase productivity, eliminate waste and influence new designs to minimize overall cost of operation. Research emerging / advanced manufacturing technologies that could increase operational efficiency in the Machine Shop.
C. Project Management
Direct & Manage planning, execution & closeout of large (>
$1 Million) Manufacturing projects. Be a resource to other company projects.
