Overview

Commercial Corporate Counsel at Waymo. Waymo is an autonomous driving technology company with the mission to be the world's most trusted driver. The Waymo Driver powers Waymo’s autonomous ride-hail service and can be applied to a range of vehicle platforms and product use cases. In this role you will work on the legal issues surrounding our transformational autonomous driving technology and help drive business lines from technology ideation through scaled commercial deployment. You will partner with public policy, safety, security and privacy experts to define transportation policy and advise on regulatory changes that support and protect users globally. You will collaborate with engineering, product, strategy and operations teams to develop and protect our intellectual property portfolio and drive corporate and commercial transactions. You will ensure compliance with a dynamic range of global regulations and anticipate, mitigate, and litigate high-profile and precedent-setting legal matters.

You Will

  • Review, draft and negotiate a variety of commercial agreements, with a focus on commercial real estate agreements (e.g. leases, construction agreements, EV charging agreements, etc.).
  • Respond promptly to legal requests from clients, summarizing and communicating legal concepts clearly.
  • Advise business and cross-functional stakeholders on legal issues that may include real estate, supply chain, regulatory issues, agreement structures and approval processes, company policies and procedures, IP, and negotiation strategy.
  • Support the continuous improvement of Waymo and the legal department by identifying and implementing improvements in processes, forms and operations.

Qualifications

  • JD degree and admission to the bar in the state where the position is located, in good standing, or authorized to practice law (e.g., in-house status) in that state.
  • 5+ years of experience advising on commercial agreements, with 4+ years advising on commercial real estate agreements.
  • Experience drafting and negotiating commercial agreements; real estate, supply chain and services agreements.
  • Experience in another specialist area of law (e.g., employment, intellectual property, corporate, or competition).
  • Direct knowledge and experience advising clients from hardware supply, R&D or fast-paced new technology companies.
  • Excellent analytical, communication and organizational skills; ability to manage multiple projects under deadline pressure and willingness to develop expertise in new, complex subject areas.

  • 3+ years drafting, negotiating and advising on supply chain agreements.
  • Salary and Benefits

    The expected base salary range for this full-time position across US locations is $238,000—$302,000 USD. Actual starting pay will be based on job-related factors, including location, experience, training, and skill level. Waymo employees are eligible to participate in discretionary bonuses, equity incentives, and a comprehensive benefits program, subject to eligibility requirements.
