Summary

The Surgery Registered Nurse is responsible for the professional nursing care and assistance to patients, surgeons, anesthetists, and non-professional personnel in providing nursing care. Assists with aspects of environmental control, equipment, and supplies. The Surgery Registered Nurse, provides care to patients in the admission phase and recovery room, and assists with the transfer of patients in accordance with the philosophy, goals, and objectives.

  • Full-Time Surgery Nurse position available!
  • Typical hours are Mon.-Fri. 7am - 3pm. No call or weekends!
  • Excellent benefits package and $5,000 Sign-On Bonus available.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Utilizes the nursing process, for the performance of patient care, to assess, plan, intervene, and evaluate patient care to achieve prioritized patient outcomes according to the RN scope of practice.
  • Performs comprehensive admission assessments, including full body system analysis and home medication reconciliation process for all surgical patients.
  • Communicates with Surgery Department Head to plan procedures and scheduling, to assure equipment and staff is available and prepared.
  • Pre-Op admission and recovery of patients as assigned.
  • Assists surgeon and / or physician with procedures.
  • Collaborates with Medical Staff, management, and other healthcare team members to coordinate and manage plan of care for patients.
  • Performs emergency treatments as required.
  • Assists with decontamination and sterile processing of instruments and supplies for surgical and hospital procedures.
  • Implements and provides safe and therapeutic care for patients during surgical interventions.
  • Performs and maintains documentation.
  • Provides quality healthcare services to all patients and participates in providing quality metrics.
  • Follows all HIPAA guidelines and promotes and ensures patient safety.
  • Fulfills mission statement by performing job duties with a high level of customer service while contributing to a positive and professional environment.
  • Special projects and other duties as assigned.
  • Education and / or Experience

  • Associates or Bachelor's Degree in Nursing from an accredited College of Nursing. One year of full-time experience in a surgical setting preferred. Electronic Health Records experience preferred.
  • Licensure / Certification
  • Current Registered Nurse licensure in the State of Nebraska. Basic Life Support (CPR)
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required within the first year of employment Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required within first year of employment
  • Trauma Nursing Core Course certification (TNCC) only required if working in the Emergency Department Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) only required if working in the Emergency Department
  • AORN Perioperative 101 required within two years of employment
  • Valid Driver's License

The employee must frequently lift and / or move up to 35 pounds; must occasionally push, pull and assist with lifting up to 300 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle and complete errands based on business needs.
  • Work Environment

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in a hospital setting. The noise level in the surgery and procedure rooms, nursing floor, inpatient rooms and Emergency Department is usually moderate.
