Floor Technician

Job Summary

Floor Technician will be responsible for overall floor maintenance and carpet care in assigned areas on a nightly basis and a variety of settings. The areas of assignments will include faculty / staff offices, classrooms, corridors, open areas, labs, auditoriums, recreation center and other various facilities. This position may require assisting with event preparations.

• Performs a variety of floor care duties. Dust mop, burnishes, strips and refinishes, scrubs, and / or recoats floors. Machine scrubs according to floor maintenance schedules. Operate various types of heavy equipment used for floor care maintenance, including automatic scrubbers, floor machines, wet / dry vacuums, burnishers, sweepers, pressure wash equipment, and carpet extractors. Must be able to move furniture, tables, and chairs to complete assigned duties.
• Does all type of heavy project cleaning using cleaning methods and equipment's, such as but not limited to floor stripping and waxing, polishing, heavy restrooms cleaning, carpet extraction, spot removal, shampoo upholstered furniture, and pressure cleaning. May wash walls and maintain baseboards and cove base molding. High and low dusting and removal of cobwebs. Clean any other item and / or area as deemed necessary to ensure a clean, safe, and presentable environment.
• Cleans all types of building spaces and surfaces. Clean by following and / or using the proper cleaning procedures, guidelines, chemicals, tools, supplies, and equipment for each area and task. Responsible for the appropriate use of Master Keys & Individual Keys, which provide access to specific and assigned areas throughout the University using the Key Watcher Lockbox. Report and respond to emergency calls for custodial assistance. Uses Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required and / or as instructed and follows all safety rules and guidelines. Adheres to and follows written daily floor maintenance schedule unless the immediate supervisor instructs.
• Properly cleans and stores equipment. Provide daily preventative equipment maintenance on all machines used. Responsible for cleaning all equipment used during the shift.
• Complies with all company safety guidelines and procedures. Reports all accidents and injuries in a timely manner. Participate in regular (classroom and virtual) safety meetings, safety training and training programs as designated.
• Keeps storage / janitorial closets organized. Stores and organizes all supplies and shelves neatly. Ensures the custodial closets remain organized, clean and fully stocked including floor signs and emergency equipment if requires, such as, wet- vacs.

• Reports to supervisor when equipment is not working properly or in need of repair.
• Performs essential duties in any emergencies such as hurricanes, public health emergencies, and / or any other university emergency closing. The employee is expected to be available to report to work as needed during university emergency closing with appropriate notification of a department administrator.
• Perform other related duties as required or as directed. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

Minimum Qualifications

Completion of the ninth (9th) grade and two (2) years of related experience.
