The Special Education Teacher is responsible for providing educational instruction to assigned students in a structured classroom environment designed to promote intellectual, emotional and social growth. He or she will develop lesson plans that are appropriate to the ages and populations served, specifically children and adolescents (ages 5-21 years) with emotional, developmental and / or behavioral needs. The teacher position requires that staff be aware that students who are served may exhibit aggressive and / or self- injurious behavior. Teachers are expected to implement highly technical clinical and teaching programs that require teachers to be constantly ready to respond to student's needs. Special Education Teachers are responsible for the development and implementation of all academic programming, as well as clinical programming via individual education plans, of all assigned students.
The position requires a proactive approach to program development emphasizing ongoing student skill development, acquisition and maintenance, increased independence, the reduction of intensive interventions and meeting IEP behavior and academic objectives.
Level I Certification with a Bachelors : $58,000 and Level I with a Masters : $59,500 for 10 months (Sept- June) + ESY optional (if you also work ESY there is an additional salary on top of the above sum), salary increases with additional education, certifications and years of experience.
