Job Overview
We're seeking a strategic, detail-oriented Environmental Policy Professional to support development of policies in the areas of extended producer responsibility and provide indirect compliance support to member companies, which are home appliance manufacturers across North America. This collaborative role sits within a close-knit team of Regulatory Affairs, Government Affairs, and other teams.
You will help support member companies anticipate trends and provide indirect compliance support for an ever-increasingly complex set of regulatory and legislative requirements related to waste management. You will work together with a cross-functional team and engage with a variety of external stakeholders.
The ideal candidate is a team player who is collegial, pragmatic, technically knowledgeable, and able to research and translate complex policies through writing and orally to internal and external audiences. Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Policy or related, or equivalent experience
2-4 years in recycling or waste public policy
Experience in U.S. and Canadian regulations at agencies such as U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and Environment& Climate Change Canada and familiarity with recycling / waste policy (EPR) and ability to understand the technical requirements associated with recycling and waste management. Demonstrated knowledge of environmental policy issues, preferably in the appliance industry.
Proven track record of cross-functional collaboration, influencing standards or legislation, and communicating complex issues clearly.
Demonstrated ability to analyze and communicate complex issues and data to public policy makers and others without experience in the issue area.
Proficiency with compliance systems, certification processes, and regulatory reporting tools
Detailed-oriented with strong analytical skills to interpret data, statutes, and manage technical requirements around EPR and packaging.
Adaptable and effective in fast-paced, politically influenced environments, engaging in issue management and stakeholder outreach.
Experience in communicating (in written, verbal, or other form) clearly, concisely and effectively to diverse audiences. Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills.
