Position specific questions

  • Reason for the need? Open physician positions
  • Is there a specific start date needed? ASAP
  • Duration of need? 6 months
  • What’s the schedule? On-site call coverage weekends nights

o Are there specific dates needed? All – evenings nights and weekends included

o If call is involved what is call volume? How often do they get called back on-site?

o Call / Rotation schedule?

  • Will they take an APP or SFA when applicable? Responsible for overseeing APPs on shift
  • Who should be the timesheet approver each week?
  • What are expectations for orientation? ie shadow day? EMR training? EMR training if not familiar with meditech plus 2-4 hour orientation.
  • Candidate Parameters

  • Any specific fellowships / certifications / procedures / competencies we are looking for? ABEM eligible / certified
  • Experience level?
  • Credentialing questions :

  • Will emergency privileges be an option? Possibly
  • Are case logs needed? If so what are the requirements?
  • Hospital / unit questions

  • Number of beds? 120 bed hospital ED – 39 beds 10 hall beds as needed
  • Census? Average daily ED census approximately 135 patients
  • How many daily admissions? 10-12 admission rate from the ED
  • Are there any consults and if so how many per day?
  • What’s the patient population?
  • Trauma center? Types of cases? Acuity? Level III trauma center trauma surgeon support on level 1 traumas
  • What does the support staff look like? RNs techs RTs
  • How will follow up cases be handled? when applicable- inpatient or outpatient
  • Specialty Specific Questions :

    Emergency Medicine

  • What are the shift times? 5 : 30am-3 : 30pm 10am-9pm 2pm-1am 8pm-6am
  • Is call involved? No
  • What procedures are required? Typical ED procedures including intubation central line placement chest tube placement suture IampD conscious sedation peds / adults fracture / joint reduction peds / adults cardioversion US FAST exams etc
  • What does the support staff include? RNs LPNs techs RTs
  • What is the average patient census? Approximately 135 patients dailyWhat are the most common cases the locum will see? Chest pain abdominal pain vomiting pregnancy related issues trauma ortho injuries pediatrics shortness of breath etc.Annual ER admissions? 10-12 daily admission rateDoes the unit use robots? If so what kind? NoHow often are the locums called back on site if on call? N / AHow many EM physicians are typically on staff per shift? 2 physicians 2 APPs except for late overnight and early morning
