Administrative Medical Assistant

As an Administrative Medical Assistant on the Palliative Services team, you will be an integral part of the patient's Banner experience looking to provide each person with the best customer service and patient care and will work directly with physicians, social workers and APP to assist coordinate patients care from various services. The primary role will include message triage, follow-up calls, documentation, communication between units, scheduling family meetings data tracking and team coordination. This is an inpatient role, great opportunity to expand your knowledge and scope. Duties include :

  • Manage and update the daily patient census for palliative consults
  • Maintain consult tracking logs, assigned provider and consult status
  • Serve as the point of contact for inpatient units requesting palliative consults
  • Monitor the palliative care consult pager or phone, ensuring timely handoffs
  • Notify provider of new consults, urgent patient needs or family meeting needs
  • Ensure all necessary documentation is available and uploaded to the EMR
  • Assist with Joint Commission duties as needed

Uncertified Medical Assistants will be considered and will have 12 months to become nationally certified once employment begins. Uncertified Medical Assistants will have access to Medical Assistant certification study material and Banner will pay for the cost of certification. A passing score would result in a pay increase due to an MA's newly certified status. Banner is also committed to your future and invested in furthering your education. All Medical Assistants must either come in nationally certified if MA course is not an accredited program by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs or Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools, or be able to obtain national certification within 12 months of employment if accredited by above. Certification must be completed from one of the following agencies : AMT, AAMA, NHA, or NCCT. BLS is also required.

  • Registry / Per Diem positions do not have guaranteed hours and no medical benefits package is offered. Completion of post-offer Occupational Health physical assessment, drug screen and background check (includes employment, criminal and education) is required. Must have availability to work Monday-Friday, 8am-4 : 30pm, there is flexibility with days / hours.

  • POSITION SUMMARY This position is responsible for performing administrative tasks (indirect care) that support the care team in providing direct medical care. This position utilizes the Electronic Health Record (EHR) and external resources or tools to provide a complete assessment of the patient's health status, which includes identifying care gaps prior to the patient encounter. This position utilizes specialized knowledge, judgment and communication skills to assure that patients get the indicated care when and where they need and want it, in a culturally and linguistically appropriate manner. Patient contact via telephone is a critical component of this position, highlighting the medical background and communication skills necessary.

    CORE FUNCTIONS 1. Performs chart review to ensure coordinated patient care. 2. Utilizes evidence based guidelines when identifying care gaps for preventative and maintenance care. Utilizes standing orders as appropriate. 3. Utilizes EHR to obtain medical information when communicating with the patient or medical care team regarding respective preventative care, chronic care, specific medications, high risk patients, and those not seen recently in the clinic. 4. Collaborates with care team to meet expected performance metrics and clinical quality measures. Identifies areas for improvement based on results of clinical performance where applicable. 5. Maintains clinical skills and provides direct patient care on an as needed basis. Completes all necessary on-boarding / orientation activities, including simulation training, as needed or directed. Participates in Annual Clinical Education Days (ACED), as needed or directed.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    High school diploma / GED or equivalent working knowledge. Knowledge as normally obtained through graduation from an Accredited Medical Assisting Program. Completion of an approved medical assistant training program as defined by state regulations. Medical Assistant Certification is required. If certification is not in hand at the time of hire, individuals will have 12 months from date of hire to obtain certification.

    Certification for BLS is required. Requires strong computer skills, including the ability to work with medical software. Requires exceptional interpersonal and communication skills. Requires the ability to manage multiple changing priorities in an effective and organized fashion.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    Experience with office medical procedures and treatments and knowledge of insurance, managed care operations, EMR and scheduling software preferred. Additional related education and / or experience preferred.
