Job Description :

Raritan Valley Community College is currently seeking a dynamic, student-focused Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) to serve as an Adjunct Lab Instructor in the Adult / Geriatric Occupational Therapy curriculum. The program is offered as a full-time day program; therefore, instructors must be able to commit to this schedule. The Adjunct Lab Instructor will support the development of OTA students' clinical skills in areas related to adult and geriatric rehabilitation, wellness, and occupational engagement. This position involves teaching hands-on lab activities, demonstrating evidence-based interventions, and promoting professional behaviors that align with ACOTE accreditation standards.

Essential Duties :

• Instruct and facilitate laboratory sessions for OTA students in the Adult / Geriatric course sequence.
• Demonstrate and supervise practice of treatment techniques, adaptive equipment uses, functional mobility, activities of daily living (ADLs), therapeutic exercise, and cognitive / perceptual interventions for adult and older adult populations.
• Provide mentorship and motivational feedback to students on clinical reasoning, therapeutic use of self, and hands-on skills.
• Collaborate with course faculty to ensure lab activities align with didactic instruction, course objectives, and ACOTE standards.
• Maintain a safe, organized, and inclusive laboratory environment that fosters learning.
• Assess student performance during lab sessions, provide timely feedback, and contribute to the evaluation of student competency.
• Provide ongoing student advisement, including academic guidance, career development support, and mentorship to promote student success and professional growth.
• Stay current with trends, best practices, and evidence-based approaches in adult and geriatric occupational therapy.
• Model professionalism, ethical practice, and commitment to lifelong learning consistent with AOTA's Code of Ethics.

Requirements :

Minimum of an Associate's degree in Occupational Therapy Assistant studies from an ACOTE-accredited program.

Current certification as a COTA with NBCOT and active NJ state licensure.

Minimum of 2 years in adult and / or geriatric practice settings (e.g., skilled nursing, acute rehab, outpatient, community-based services).

Previous teaching or supervisory experience in academic or clinical settings.

Experience with psychosocial, physical, and cognitive interventions for older adults.

Familiarity with ACOTE accreditation standards and OTA program curriculum.

Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.

Ability to engage and mentor students in a supportive and professional manner.

Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in education.

Preferred Qualifications :

Bachelor's degree in a related field.
