GENERAL PURPOSE

Under the supervision of the Physical Plants Manager, this position performs urgent HVAC repair calls, diagnosing and resolving issues, and ensuring that all systems operate efficiently and effectively.

Pay Grade : Uniform Salary Grade U160

Work Calendar : All 12 Month Staff

FLSA Status : Non-Exempt

Main Job Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Respond promptly to emergency service calls for HVAC systems
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair commercial HVAC equipment such as split systems, packaged units, chillers, cooling towers, boilers, valves, expansion tanks, and pumps
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair commercial kitchen equipment such as refrigerators, freezers, steamers, dishwashers, ovens, and hood systems
  • Perform troubleshooting and repairs on HVAC control systems
  • Perform thorough inspections and testing of HVAC equipment to identify problems
  • Communicate effectively with clients to explain issues, provide recommendations, and ensure understanding of the repair process
  • Complete all necessary paperwork, including service reports and repair documentation
  • Maintain and organize tools, equipment, and parts
  • Follow safety protocols and adhere to company standards and procedures
  • Provide exceptional customer service and uphold the company's reputation
  • Perform preventative maintenance on heating, air conditioning, food service, refrigeration, and ventilation systems as needed

    • Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Experience with Direct Digital Control and Energy Management Systems
  • Current EPA-approved CFC Universal certificate
  • Valid Virginia Driver's License

    • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge : Safety regulations (OSHA, Hazard Communication), HVAC systems, food service equipment, refrigeration, plumbing, electrical systems, tools and equipment
  • Skills : Operating computers and related software
  • Abilities : Diagnose mechanical defects, prioritize tasks, follow instructions, read and interpret plans, work independently and in teams, manage multiple projects, demonstrate enthusiasm and quality in work

    • Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

  • Indoor and outdoor environment, exposure to weather, mechanical parts, electrical equipment, confined spaces
  • Ability to exert force up to 50 pounds occasionally, 30 pounds frequently, and 10 pounds constantly
  • Exposure to fumes, dust, gases, risk of electric shock
  • Physical capabilities include working with fingers, perceiving sounds, making rational decisions, speaking, standing, walking, visual acuity, and other motions
