Overview
The Senior Electrical Engineer will lead electrical design teams to deliver high-quality designs for new developments, upgrades, and redevelopments across a wide range of sectors, including power, process, healthcare, transportation, industrial, manufacturing, government, and institutional facilities. This role oversees all phases of design and construction, ensuring electrical plans align with project budgets, technical standards, and client objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and execute complex electrical engineering projects using advanced techniques to develop new or improved systems, equipment, and methodologies.
Coordinate departmental or divisional design assignments, studies, and reports.
Perform detailed power system studies and system protection settings coordination for projects up to the 500-kV level.
Develop design basis documentation for protective settings and create native relay configuration files.
Conduct design reviews and support quality assurance efforts.
Collaborate with project managers to define scope and develop conceptual designs.
Mentor and provide technical guidance to less experienced engineers.
Contribute to business development and proposal efforts.
Qualifications
Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field, plus a minimum of seven (7) years of experience in electrical system studies within the electric utility or industrial power distribution sector.
A Masters degree in a related field with at least six (6) years of relevant experience may be considered in lieu of the above.
Eligibility for Professional Engineer (PE) licensure.
Preferred Experience and Skills
Experience developing protective relay settings in transmission or distribution systems.
Proficiency with system modeling and analysis software such as ASPEN, CAPE, CYME, ETAP, or SKM.
Strong understanding of protection schemes and philosophies for transmission and distribution substations.
Ability to generate native relay setting files using SELs AcSELerator and GEs Enervista tools.
Skilled in interpreting single-line, three-line, schematic, and functional electrical diagrams.
Capable of performing and reviewing design calculations, including short-circuit analysis, CT sizing and performance, overcurrent coordination, distance element coordination, and relay loadability studies.
Experience performing grounding, arc flash, and other power system studies is a plus.
Ability to provide engineering support during construction and commissioning phases for substation projects.
