Global Engineering Manager - Emerging Technologies

The mission of the Global Technology Innovation team is to identify and scale-up advanced technologies into commercializable innovations to realize Baltimore Aircoil Company's (BAC) vision to reinvent cooling to sustain the world. Headquartered in Jessup, MD, the Global Technology Innovation team is a fast-paced, high-energy innovation driver for sustainable industrial and commercial heat rejection, thermal energy storage, thermal management, water treatment and monitoring, and carbon capture technologies. We are looking for a curious, humble, and resilient Global Engineering Manager, Emerging Technologies, to provide leadership, motivation, coordination, and expertise to the Emerging Technologies R&D team, and lead or support projects to develop and scale technologies that will create lasting sustainable value.

Principal Accountabilities :

  • Collaborate with the Global Director, Technology Innovation to develop business strategy for the Emerging Technologies R&D team
  • Champion a culture of innovation, collaboration, and technical excellence to create a world class team.
  • Manage the Emerging Technologies R&D team, which is responsible for project scoping, planning, management and execution across the entire Technology Innovation team's Emerging Technologies R&D project portfolio, and other Technology Innovation-led initiatives as assigned.
  • Orchestrate and prioritize on-time, on-budget, and right first-time execution of Emerging Technologies R&D projects and other Technology Innovation-led initiatives that drive business growth.
  • Develop and present comprehensive project proposals, detailed action plans, and progress updates to both technical and non-technical audiences, including the BAC executive team, to facilitate informed decision-making and the advancement of Emerging Technologies R&D projects and other Technology Innovation-led initiatives.
  • Interface regularly with key internal / external stakeholders and subject matter expert to clarify requirements, ensure alignment, secure resources, and resolve any issues impeding the development and execution of Emerging Technologies R&D projects and other Technology Innovation-led initiatives.
  • Drive the continuous improvement of Emerging Technologies R&D processes, standards, and tools, and demonstrate metrics-based performance improvements.
  • Elevate the Emerging Technologies R&D team, through coaching and development to enhance strengths and improve in areas of development.
  • Act as project working leader for complex and / or business critical projects : manage project team, schedule, and budget, communicate with functional leader and executive sponsor(s), and drive project execution.
  • Develop specifications for new product and technology concepts aligned with BAC strategy and vision, create test / numerical simulation plans, analyze test data, develop numerical models, and synthesize results.
  • Participate / lead planning and review meetings with the Technology Innovation team.
  • Provide technical expertise to the BAC organization and participate in cross-functional innovation activities.

Nature and Scope :

The Global Engineering Manager, Emerging Technologies will report to the Global Director, Technology Innovation. As part of the Global Engineering and Manufacturing Strategy department, the Global Engineering Manager, Emerging Technologies, will have frequent interactions with the Core Technology, Support Systems, Test Lab, New Product Introduction, and Advanced Manufacturing Technology groups within BAC, and external technology partners outside of BAC. This position is a hybrid of technical and managerial work, requiring coordination of projects, managing and mentoring Emerging Technologies R&D Engineering resources, and the completion of a wide variety of tasks with minimal supervision.

Knowledge & Skills :

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or related Engineering field required; MS or PhD in Mechanical, Aerospace, or related Engineering field preferred.
  • Ten or more years of applicable progressively complex Engineering experience in high-performing R&D and / or New Product Development organizations required; at least 2 years in a leadership role preferred.
  • Professional experience in thermal-fluid systems Engineering and / or related fields (heat transfer, fluid flow, coupled heat / mass transfer, fluid dynamics) required; professional experience in cross-functional environments preferred.
  • Ability to supervise technical staff and technical project management skills.
  • Ability to motivate and influence direct reports / others to prioritize work to support deliverables and meet commitments
  • Proactive and diligent in holding direct reports accountable to their commitments and providing prompt and practical constructive feedback.
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills and ability to execute multiple projects and tasks at a given time; proactive in identifying and communicating project / task impediments and risks, and recommending potential solutions.
  • Professional experience with CAD, FEA, and / or CFD, and applied code writing experience.
  • BAC Hiring Compensation Range $116,700-$200,000
