This is a 12-month non-tenure-accruing position that will be 100% research in the Department of Wildlife Ecology and Conservation, Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences, at the University of Florida. This assignment may change in accordance with the needs of the unit.
Responsibilities
Duties include applied research on species population dynamics and decision support tools to evaluate management actions, collaboration with cooperators to ensure management relevancy of models and analyses, presenting and publishing research findings at meetings and in peer-reviewed journals, and participating in grant writing efforts. The candidate has the opportunity to participate in undergraduate and graduate education by chairing graduate committees, serving on graduate committees, supervising undergraduate research, and teaching courses.
The successful candidate will actively participate in undergraduate and graduate education by chairing and serving on graduate committees, supervising thesis and dissertation work, supervising undergraduate research, and publishing results with students. Faculty are encouraged to engage in professional development related to teaching and advising and may teach courses and seminars.
Background Information
The University of Florida is a Land-Grant, Sea-Grant, and Space-Grant institution with extensive programs and a large enrollment. UF is a member of The Association of American Universities. The Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences includes the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences, the Florida Agricultural Experiment Station, the Florida Cooperative Extension Service, the College of Veterinary Medicine, the Florida Sea Grant program, and encompasses multiple departments, research centers, and extension offices across the state. UF / IFAS employs nearly 4,500 people, including about 990 faculty and 1,400 permanent staff.
The programs of the Department of Wildlife Ecology and Conservation emphasize biological and human dimensions of wildlife ecology and conservation in local to international arenas. The department collaborates with centers and programs such as the Center for Latin American Studies, Center for African Studies, and the School of Natural Resources and the Environment. The Florida Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit focuses on wetlands ecology, coastal ecology, decision science, and endangered species conservation. The nearby Ordway-Swisher Biological Station provides an outdoor lab for teaching and long-term field research and is designated as a National Science Foundation NEON core site.
Other units on or near campus support the department's teaching and research programs, including The Florida Climate Institute, the Tropical Conservation and Development Program, Center for Wetlands, UF Biodiversity Institute, Florida Museum of Natural History, and related federal and state research laboratories and programs.

Required Qualifications
Candidates must possess a doctorate (foreign equivalent acceptable) in Biological or Wildlife Science, or a related field. Candidates should have demonstrated skills in verbal and written communication, interpersonal relationships, and acquisition of extramural funding. Candidates must support the mission of the Land-Grant system and have a commitment to UF core values.
Preferred Qualifications
Preference for related postdoctoral experience. Experience in Florida and internationally is desirable. Preference to candidates with scholarship in population dynamics, statistical analysis, predictive modeling, and programming in R. Preference to candidates with demonstrated verbal and written communication skills, including presentations at national meetings and peer-reviewed publications in top journals in the field.
