Position Summary

The Chief Operating & Financial Officer (COFO) is a dual-role executive with primary responsibility for operational leadership and secondary responsibility for financial oversight. This leader will act as the company’s operational integrator, managing all functional directors (with the exception of sales), ensuring day-to-day performance, and driving cross-functional alignment to deliver the CEO’s strategy. In addition, the COFO provides financial stewardship, strategic insights, and Board-level reporting in close partnership with the CEO. This role requires a proven operator with demonstrated COO-level experience and exposure to CFO responsibilities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage and lead all functional directors (except sales), ensuring accountability, collaboration, and high performance across departments.
  • Cross-Functional Integration – Act as the integrator between departments to break down silos and ensure organizational alignment.
  • Operational Accountability – Take direct responsibility for how the business runs day-to-day, ensuring consistent execution across operations, supply chain, IT, HR, and finance.
  • Execution of CEO Strategy – Translate the CEO’s strategic vision into operational initiatives, ensuring projects and priorities are delivered on time and at a high standard.
  • Operational Efficiency & Scale – Identify inefficiencies, standardize processes, and implement scalable systems to support growth.
  • Risk & Stability – Own operational and financial risk, building resilient structures and ensuring compliance with regulations.
  • Partner with People Operations and the Director of Accounting to oversee benefit strategy, insurance programs, legal matters, and organizational structure.
  • Represent operations at the executive and Board level, communicating performance, risks, and opportunities.
  • Build out the COO function by establishing frameworks, KPIs, and accountability systems for long-term scalability.
  • Provide financial projections, growth plans, and strategic recommendations to the CEO and Board.
  • Lead the development and presentation of the annual budget for Board approval.
  • Align financial strategy with the overall company mission and growth trajectory.
  • Support the CEO with both organic and acquisitive growth strategies, including financial modeling, due diligence, and integration planning.
  • Manage high-level relationships with banks, attorneys, auditors, and other external partners.
  • Oversee corporate governance, compliance, and broad financial risk management.
  • Ensure operational execution remains tightly aligned to strategic financial planning.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, or related field required; MBA strongly preferred.
  • 12+ years of progressive leadership experience with significant COO-level responsibility and exposure to CFO-level financial oversight.
  • Proven success managing multiple functional directors and leading cross-departmental performance.
  • Demonstrated expertise in operational excellence, scaling businesses, and implementing process improvements.
  • Strong background in financial strategy, planning, and external partner management.
  • Experience in mergers, acquisitions, and post-deal integration preferred.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and organizational skills with the ability to influence and hold executives accountable.
