Job Description
The Heavy Construction division delivers mission-critical electrical infrastructure in large civil projects. Work includes major public contracts for agencies such as MTA, NYS DOT, Port Authority, and NYC DOT, encompassing ITS, lighting, power distribution, fiber optics, controls, system integration, utility coordination, and roadway or tunnel installations.
As a Project Manager, you will oversee multi-million-dollar heavy construction electrical projects spanning highways, bridges, tunnels, transit systems, and utility networks—coordinating design, installation, commissioning, and integration across multiple stakeholders.
Position Summary
The Project Manager is responsible for planning, executing, and delivering heavy construction electrical projects on time, within budget, and in compliance with all quality, safety, and performance standards. This role requires strong technical expertise, contract management proficiency, and leadership in complex infrastructure environments.
Requirements
Project Planning & Execution
Develop project execution plans, including scope, schedule, budget, and risk management.
Lead kickoff meetings, establish milestones, and monitor progress.
Coordinate with design engineers, subcontractors, suppliers, and utilities.
Manage procurement, materials, and field logistics.
Ensure electrical work aligns with civil, structural, and roadway disciplines.
Oversee change orders, claims, and contract modifications.
Financial & Contract Management
Prepare and manage budgets, forecasts, and cost control systems.
Track earned value, job costs, and revenue recognition.
Negotiate and administer subcontracts and vendor agreements.
Identify cost-saving and value engineering opportunities.
Ensure compliance with all contractual and regulatory obligations.
Quality, Safety & Compliance
Enforce quality control and commissioning protocols.
Ensure compliance with codes, standards, and inspection criteria.
Promote safety culture and compliance with OSHA and agency requirements.
Conduct site inspections and address non conformance issues.
Team Leadership & Stakeholder Management
Lead and mentor project engineers, superintendents, and field staff.
Maintain effective communication across all project disciplines.
Build strong relationships with clients, agencies, and community stakeholders.
Resolve on-site conflicts and technical challenges.
Reporting & Documentation
Prepare project reports, forecasts, and status updates.
Maintain documentation such as RFIs, submittals, and change logs.
Manage project closeout deliverables : as-builts, O&M manuals, and punch lists.
Qualifications & Experience
Required :
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.
8+ years of project management experience in heavy civil or infrastructure construction.
Proven track record managing multi-million-dollar projects.
Strong understanding of electrical systems, controls, and utility work.
Proficient in project scheduling (MS Project or Primavera P6) and cost tracking.
Excellent leadership, communication, and negotiation skills.
Experience managing budgets, forecasts, and contract compliance.
Familiarity with public agency standards (DOT, MTA, Port Authority, etc.).
Preferred :
PE license, PMP, or CCM certification.
Experience with design-build or integrated project delivery.
Knowledge of permitting, utility coordination, and traffic control.
Working Conditions
Frequent field visits to active job sites with outdoor exposure.
Occasional night or weekend work during project shutdowns.
Travel between multiple sites as required.
