Overview

HIM data integrity specialist is responsible for managing duplicate patients and erroneous patient data in the EPIC EMR and scanning and Carle dictation systems to assure accuracy and quality of patient data. This position is responsible for the quality and timeliness of duplicate patient merges and correction of erroneous entries in EPIC. The HIM data integrity specialist is also responsible for regular and adhoc reporting on metrics pertaining to duplicates and corrections. The HIM data specialist works with the HIM operations team and EPIC HIM and Identity team on master patient index merges and advises on topics around identity and appropriate merges.

Qualifications

Education : Associate's Degree (Required),

Work Experience :

Excellent written and oral communication skills. Good knowledge of Microsoft office software including Word, Excel and Power Point. Good working knowledge of EPIC EMR and HIM Module and applications. Experience and familiarity with hospital registration and billing systems, electronic medical record, insurance and provider databases preferred. Exceptional PC and software skills. EPIC experience preferred. Ability to function in a team environment. Analytical and problem solving skills.

Responsibilities

Accountable to assure all potential duplicate patient registrations are reviewed and resolved within 5 business daysUse EPIC tools to move incorrectly placed data within the EPIC EMR and validate appropriate placementProvides regular updates in the form of reports and metrics as required and requestedWork with EPIC Identity team and EPIC TS to resolve issues and determine appropriate settings and workflow to manage duplicate medical record numbersWork with transcription vendor to assure outsourced work is completed and in the appropriate patient chart timelyWork with EPIC team on master patient index merge as needed to assume timely and accurate completionOnboard and train HIM team members as needed to assist in duplicate patient merge or MPI projectsMaintain understanding of HIPAA and other compliance and regulatory requirements related to correct clinical data and patient identificationResearches and resolves problems as it relates to auto merge and recommends logic updates to HIM VP and DirectorMonitors tickets / issues reported for patient identity / duplicate records and chart corrections which could create patient safety concernsManages the shared spreadsheet of MRN correction updates and ensures all stakeholders are completing their merge / correction activitiesFacilitates chart correction process with end users by following policy and coordinating timely correctionsIdentifies overlays and data integrity issues through use of daily reports and work queuesServes as liaison between HIM, patient access, clinical areas, information systemsPerform specific tasks as required by HIM manager or director Attend all HIM department meetings as required and complete all Carle and HIM training as required or neeed

Compensation and Benefits

The compensation range for this position is $20.08per hour - $32.53per hour. This represents a good faith minimum and maximum range for the role at the time of posting by Carle Health. The actual compensation offered a candidate will be dependent on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate's experience, qualifications, location, training, licenses, shifts worked and compensation model.
