Perform as a senior level technician in auditing, verification, and processing of district-wide payroll, and monitoring compliance with district policy and related laws governing payroll.

What You'll Do :
Audit, verify and input payroll data received from schools.Review, document and report personnel changes and make adjustments to employee's pay as required.Document and report discrepancies, negligence, theft, fraud and falsification of records.Review, update and process employee information, and payroll related information.Receive notification of employee deaths, calculate tax liability, and process necessary payroll transactions.Collect and organize payroll information, reviewing and correcting discrepancies.Ensure proper taxing for all employees, including retirees and students.Research and communicate payroll information to employees, schools, and departments.Complete employee verification forms.Comply with all security protocols, and secure necessary approvals prior to the release or distribution of any information.Provide technical direction and guidance to subordinate payroll level technicians.Update and maintain knowledge of technical, legislative, and professional trends and developments.Process garnishments, tax levies, child support orders, manual checks and voids.Perform other duties as requested.What You'll Need :
High school Diploma or equivalent required, with an Associate's Degree in Accounting or equivalent preferred.Three (3) or more years of progressively responsible experience, in payroll administration and processing.Computer skills / experience and proficiency with various proprietary payroll and HRIS systems.Technical knowledge and experience with a variety of computer applications.Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC) designation is desired but not required.The ability to take responsibility for one's own performance.Effectively handle multiple demands and competing deadlines.Strong attention to detail.High degree of integrity in handling confidential information.Ability to work in a multi-ethnic and multi-cultural environment.Work collaboratively with others on a team.Aptitude for variety and changing expectations and a fast-paced environment.Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.Advanced knowledge of basic payroll laws, garnishment requirements, and laws governing deceased payments.Ability to work under pressure, exercise good judgment and make sound decisions in stressful situations.Ability to work in a team-oriented environment.Ability to work effectively with staff and the public.Ability to receive, coordinate and assign various job related tasks simultaneously.Ability to communicate clearly in both written and oral formats.Ability to demonstrate critical thinking and problem solving skills.Lead for racial and educational excellence and work to dismantle systems of oppression and inequity in our community.Live and work with a permanent home address in Colorado while working with us.Have the ability with or without accommodations to meet the physical demands of the position.Denver Public Schools is an Equal Opportunity Employer and does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, parental status, national origin, age, disability, genetic information, political affiliation, military service, or any other status protected by law or regulations.
