Capacity Development Manager

KBX is searching for a Capacity Development Manager who will lead a team responsible for enhancing profitability and achieving cost avoidance for KBX's customers. This role plays a pivotal role in driving growth, innovation, and operational excellence within our Over-The-Road (OTR) service capabilities. Your day will involve collaborating with internal teams and external partners to optimize service delivery, expand carrier networks, and ensure financial and operational targets are met.

The KBX Global Capacity Solutions team leads the company's strategic sourcing and carrier partnership programs across all transportation modes. Our primary objective is to deliver capacity solutions to the business that are creative, cost effective, service focused, and add value to our KBX teammates, our customers, and our carrier partners. This critical role will lead a team that provides procurement support of our Loadshop spot market capability and capacity development solutions with 3 direct reports, reporting to the Managing Director, Capacity Solutions.

The responsibilities include :

  • Develop and implement strategies that foster growth and improvement of OTR services aligned with company goals.
  • Oversee OTR carrier connectivity, ensuring real-time updates are received to meet customer expectations.
  • Collaborate with internal Managed Freight teams to identify and execute on spot market opportunities for overflow of committed capacity.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with a network of carriers to ensure KBX has access to spot market capacity.
  • Leverage the KBX Brokerage BI Report to analyze broker lane utilization, identifying opportunities to support small- to medium-sized carriers.
  • Continuously innovate and expand the capacity development team's capabilities by coaching the team on development opportunities.
  • Lead mini- to small-carrier bid initiatives to reduce costs and unlock growth opportunities aligned with KBX network goals.
  • Monitor industry trends and competitor activities to proactively capitalize on market opportunities.
  • Manage profitability and cost avoidance efforts to meet or exceed monthly financial targets, taking corrective actions as necessary.
  • Monitor invoicing, accessorial charges, revenue, margin, and volume across all accounts to ensure operational efficiency.

The qualifications include :

  • Experience developing and executing strategies to grow OTR transportation services in alignment with business objectives.
  • Experience building and maintaining strong relationships with customers, carriers, and internal stakeholders.
  • Experience managing financial performance including profitability, cost avoidance, and margin optimization.
  • Experience analyzing market data, logistics / transportation industry trends, and internal reports to identify opportunity areas.
  • Experience managing direct reports and offering mentorship and guidance for career coaching opportunities
  • Experience managing carrier connectivity solutions
  • Experience working as a freight broker and evaluating buy / sell / trade opportunities
  • Experience leading carrier bid processes
