Wellness Director - James P. Gills Branch
The YMCA of the Suncoast is seeking a Wellness Director for the James P. Gills Branch. This is an Exempt position reporting to the Executive Director and supervising Wellness Programs, Personal Training and Offsite Programs, Wellness Center Staff, Group Exercise Staff and Volunteers.

The James P. Gills Family Branch is located on 30 acres in West Pasco County and has a 35,000 square foot main building with two aquatic venues, gymnasium, kids zone, wellness center, multi-purpose rooms, low ropes course, climbing wall, teen center, TRX suspension training room, and a 5,000 square foot Youth Activity Center. The branch impacts over 9,000 people in our community with a focus on Healthy Living, Social Responsibility, and Youth Development.
The Wellness Director will be responsible for staff supervision, budgeting, expense control and income generation for a $378,000 department budget, program development and quality control, community relations, collaborations, long-range planning, and equipment and facility maintenance. The Wellness Director also provides direction and leadership for the achievement of Association goals in accordance with the policies, procedures, and standards established by the Board.
Responsibilities include :
High Quality Programs, Services and Facilities
- Direct and administer total operation of the Wellness Department
- Plan and conduct a wide variety of wellness programs and activities
- Create a nurturing and safe environment
- Promote and monitor membership and / or program growth
Staff and Volunteer Management
Recruit, hire, supervise and develop department staff and volunteersLead and / or participate in a branch committee(s)Conduct monthly staff meetingsSupport branch Y Community Champions effortsFinance

Bachelor's Degree in field required. Master's Degree in related field preferred.Minimum 3 years experience in related field and 2 years experience in management or supervision.Must meet YMCA of the Suncoast driving criteria.Y-USA Team leader, Multi Team Leader or Organizational Leader Certification preferred.Must maintain current CPR / First Aid certification and National Certification as a Personal Trainer.Must be able to stand for extended periods of time as well as squat, stoop or bend into awkward positions. Must be able to carry and spot up to 50 pounds. Visual and auditory observation of staff, volunteers, and members required.Must be able to multitask, manage and cultivate relationships as well as have a high level of emotional maturity.Must have strong communication skills, including written, verbal, and presentation skills.
