Position Summary :
The HOA Accountant is responsible for managing the financial records and reporting for multiple homeowner associations using strict accrual-based accounting methods . This role requires strong attention to detail, sound judgment, and the ability to manage complex accounting processes across various client accounts. The HOA Accountant works closely with internal teams, Board members, and external auditors to ensure timely, accurate, and compliant financial reporting in accordance with accrual accounting standards . A successful candidate will be analytical, organized, and capable of balancing multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
Key Responsibilities :
General Accounting :
- Record journal entries and post transactions in client accounts.
- Prepare and deliver monthly financial statements with supporting documentation.
- Reconcile bank accounts and review general ledger activity.
- Post homeowner payments and issue payments to vendors.
- Process homeowner closing requests and associated financial entries.
Client & Board Support :
Respond to financial and bookkeeping questions from Boards, Community Managers, and internal stakeholders.Assist with client onboarding by setting up accounting systems and entering opening balances.Coordinate with external auditors, tax preparers, and service providers as needed.Systems & Reporting :
Download and process daily lockbox files from bank websites, resolving imaging issues or errors.Monitor and reconcile escrow and reserve accounts.Track write-offs and complete projects related to delinquent homeowner accounts.Maintain audit-ready financial files and documentation for each association.Special Projects :
Complete ad hoc assignments for Boards, Division Presidents, and senior leadership.Support special assessments, funding requests, and project-specific financial tracking.Skills and Qualifications :
Must have a solid understanding and hands-on experience with accrual-based accounting; cash basis experience will not be considered sufficient.Degree in Accounting or Finance from an accredited institution required.Minimum 3–4 years of accounting or bookkeeping experience.Prior experience with HOA financials and multi-client accounting strongly preferred.Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software (CINC experience is a plus).Ability to read, understand, and interpret financial data and reports.Strong communication skills and professional demeanor when dealing with Boards, vendors, and colleagues.Ability to manage multiple deadlines and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.Detail-oriented with strong organizational and analytical skills.Benefits
