Overview

The Department of Pediatrics of the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Peoria (UICOMP) is accepting applications for a full-time Child Protection Specialist for the Pediatric Resource Center (Division of Child Abuse Pediatrics). The Pediatric Resource Center provides evidence-informed medical and social services to child victims of abuse / neglect.

The Child Protection Specialist is an integral part of PRC's child-focused medical social services for children who may have experienced physical abuse, sexual abuse, and / or neglect and their families.

Responsibilities

• Respond to phone referrals by obtaining intake information and evaluating it for acceptance for services; for cases not accepted, provide referrals to more appropriate community resources / agencies.
• Provide emotional support to children and their families during medical evaluation and / or inpatient hospital stay.
• Perform highly specialized work in child protection, including risk assessment and safety planning.
• Identify and evaluate child abuse resources and obtain information relevant to families caring for a child abuse victim.
• Serve as an authority and provide expertise in child abuse to physicians and other professionals.
• Provide specialized medical casework services to a caseload of 30 to 60 children per month, including intake screening, compiling pertinent information and social history, and assessment of data for medical evaluation and safety planning.
• Represent the unit on at least one community child welfare committee and liaise with select DCFS offices in the central region.
• Foster professional and positive relationships with all agencies involved with the Pediatric Resource Center.
• Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
