Principal

This position is responsible for directing and overseeing logistical operations and the staff at the building level of the K-12 school program. The Principal is an instructional leader who enforces a growth mindset with high expectations for continuous improvement of the school academic and behavioral programs, while also establishing a student-oriented, accountable, and motivated environment for all staff members who serve our students and families. This position requires an individual capable of navigating a fast-paced, changing environment with the ability to manage and direct a large number of school staff and students with excellent judgement. This position reports to the Director of Special Education.

Responsibilities :

  • Manage the daily operations of the school program, staff and students, and families and external constituents.
  • Establish and maintain a climate that attracts, retains, and motivates high-caliber, diverse staff with skills appropriate to meet the needs of the students.
  • Model professional competencies and protocols and hold staff accountable in all interactions with students, family members, other employees, community members, and stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with all members of the leadership team to ensure that programming is academically sound and meets all PDE and special education regulations and requirements.
  • Lead the ongoing implementation of curriculum and instruction, including leading data groups, evaluating student outcomes, and recommending changes in instructional methods to increase student achievement.
  • Ensure the development and implementation of students' Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) as well as the compliance with student and parental rights.
  • Participate in the management of the school program budget.
  • Manage class groupings, schedules, and other logistical activities.
  • Collaborate with all departments in the efficient and effective programming for all Fairwold Academy students.
  • Communicate regularly with parents or guardians.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Skills :

  • Broad knowledge of curriculum accommodations and Multi-Tiered System of Support for academic and behavioral interventions in schools.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of instructional practices and evidence-based programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage curriculum data, school data, and lead data-analysis groups.
  • Demonstrated ability to form trusting relationships with the student population and staff.
  • Demonstrated ability to assess, develop, implement and evaluate teacher development needs and to identify links between curriculum standards, special education, and student progress.
  • Demonstrated ability to navigate a variety of duties that may be interrupted or changed by immediate circumstances.
  • Excellent use of correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and vocabulary.

  • Performance Requirement :

  • Model and enforce Positive Behavioral Intervention & Supports as assigned to establish a culture of teaching and learning.
  • Establish and enforce accountability measures to ensure a safe and orderly school environment, including managing daily operations, supervision of students and staff, and communication with parents and external stakeholders.
  • Evaluate professional staff performance and conduct teacher observations with constructive feedback to ensure staff accountability measures for instructional delivery and professionalism.
  • Enforce all organizational policies and procedures; follow staff disciplinary guidelines and issue corrective feedback; document performance.
  • Enforce all proactive behavioral management and reporting protocols, including Mandt, PBIS, and trauma-informed practices as designated by PHMC and Fairwold policy.
  • Manage all off-campus program-related trips and activities.
  • Lead data-analysis groups with teachers and other staff; use data to assist teachers in developing instructional support activities and monitor student outcomes.
  • Develop parent communication protocols for staff and enforce adherence.
  • Work collaboratively with Special Education professionals to ensure teachers comply with special education timelines and education regulations.
  • Work collaboratively with the Curriculum and Instruction professionals to ensure efficient delivery of evidence-based programs, practices, and compliance for required or mandated student performance assessments.
  • Establish and maintain commitment to family involvement in the school program by developing annual parent engagement activities; document outcomes.
  • Ensure effective management and instructional delivery continues in staff absences; assign coverage and communication with all members of the instructional team.
  • Build and mentor a high-functioning team focused on achieving program priorities; provide constructive supervision and ongoing performance feedback.
  • Deliver, schedule, or participate in full, active, and frequent participation in professional development events and opportunities, with the consistent application of new learning.
  • Plan and manage logistics for professional school events that may extend beyond the school day, including, but not limited to, Back to School Night, Parent Conferences, Academic Honors, PBIS Events.
  • Develops a school budget reflecting student and staff needs through performance measures.
  • Full compliance with all PHMC and Fairwold Academy policies and procedures regarding job performance, conduct standards and expectations.
  • Maintains proper credentials for assignment and remains educationally informed in all related areas including PDE regulations and state / national standards.
  • Performs related duties, special assignments and projects as assigned by the Executive Director.
  • Physical Demands / Work Environment :

  • Routine school environment. Employee may be involved in de-escalating student behaviors using mandatory approved techniques.
  • Potential exposure to blood borne pathogens; may transport students in agency in accordance with PA Department of Education and Department of Transportation requirements and school and PHMC procedures.
  • Ability to climb stairs and walk on uneven terrain, play yards and school grounds.
  • Ability to move rapidly, forward, backward and laterally.
  • Physical capacity to lift, move and position a student up to age 21 who may weigh 150 pounds or more with the assistance of other properly trained personnel.
  • Ability to independently utilize routine office equipment.
  • Ability to independently travel outside of school hours as determined by administration.

  • Education and Experience :

  • Master's degree in Education, Special Education or related field.
  • Current and valid Instructional II certification required.
  • Pennsylvania Principal K-12 or Administrative K-12 certification required.
  • Supervisor of Special Education certification or Academic Coach or Specialist certification desired.
  • 6 years' minimum experience teaching in a special education classroom or regular education classroom with special education students.
  • At least 3 years' previous school leadership experience required, including working with school-wide projects, curriculum projects, or interdisciplinary projects.
  • Salary :

  • Salary is based on candidate's relevant work experience and PHMC compensation pay structure.
  • Grade 23
