The Opportunity
This position is well-suited to an engineer who enjoys applying design skills across the full production process, from CAD modeling and CNC layout to packaging testing and practical shop-floor execution.
The Packaging Engineer will work on real products with real performance expectations, contributing to the design and construction of protective packaging using foam, plywood, corrugated board, and related materials. The role blends technical precision with hands-on implementation and occasional coordination with customers, making it ideal for someone who is comfortable transitioning between software, tools, and collaborative environments.
Success in this position requires dependability, attention to detail, and a continuous improvement mindset. The engineer will work closely with team members across departments to support production outcomes, enhance customer satisfaction, and contribute to process efficiency as the company continues to grow.
Key Responsibilities
Design and develop custom packaging solutions using foam, wood, and corrugated materials
Operate and troubleshoot 3-axis CNC equipment and associated production tools
Apply CAD software, including AutoCAD, IRONCAD, and Adobe Illustrator to create production-ready designs
Interpret and apply nominal and actual dimensions in both metric and imperial units
Create and maintain clear work instructions and documentation
Utilize measuring instruments and assist with shop-floor troubleshooting as needed
Collaborate across teams to improve production workflows and fulfill customer requirements
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related technical field
At least two years of packaging design or manufacturing experience preferred
Proficiency in CAD software and experience with multi-axis layout tools
Familiarity with 3-axis CNC operation and 3D printer software
Strong understanding of packaging tolerances and material behavior, particularly with foam, plywood, and cardboard
Experience conducting packaging material tests and using mechanical measuring tools
Effective time management, communication, and documentation skills
Ability to work cooperatively in a cross-functional setting with a customer-focused approach
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Outlook
